Think of your five senses: touch, sight, taste, smell and hearing. Sometimes a relationship needs all of these, you need to be able to touch the one you love, see them, taste (get your minds out of the gutter..lol...I mean as in kiss them), smell them, as well as hear them. When you are only able to talk to someone and long for all of the above it makes it hard and strains a relationship. You throw in a couple of spoonsful of insecurities and trust issues and you have the perfect recipe for disaster.

It's sad when you love someone but have to let them go because of distance, if it's love it's definitely worth fighting for!

Good Luck and Best Wishes!

I guess because you live two completely separate lives. The only thing you have in common is each other - even though you might both like going to the movies, you can't share that interest effectively when distance is put between you.

There can also be a lot of jealousy issues with a lot of long distance relationships. Time apart gives time to think, and at least one party will tend to over think things, such as "Gee, she sounded really happy to be going out with her new friends. Who are these people, what are they going to do." That kind of stuff.

Of course, this is a generalisation and it isn't the case for a lot of couples. Distance can make the heart grow fonder, but as my mother (the eternal pessimist) used to say "that's because you forget the bad." For it to succeed, both partners need to be really secure within themselves, but - and maybe I take after my mother - that's rarely the case.

I think long distance relationships fail due to trust withering away from not knowing whats going on all the time. Another factor could be intimacy. But that's just my opinion.

because its not a real relationship too begin with. Most people that even bother too get involved in a long distance relationship only do so because they no that there is no "true commitment". Most long distance relationships are just people who cant handle being in a real relationship.

Mine didn't.
But then, it can't *stay* long distance...then it's pointless. But if there's an end in sight and the distance can be closed, then there's something to look forward to.

If there's no end to the distance, there's nothing to aspire towards and then it's just a long drawn-out bootie call...not a relationship.

Because of the obvious reason. long distance. People need to be able to meet each other now and then and when thats not possible, relationships deteriorate.

Not all do, if all did then all marriages dealing with those in the military would have failed. There are many reasons any marriage fails and those reasons have to do with the two people involved in the marriage.

Probably for the same reasons that short-distance ones do.

because as much as couples need to connect emotionally they need to connect physically. (that doesn't always have to mean sex) but why be with someone you can't see or smell or touch a good friend is someone you can talk to but a good relationship is SO much more!!!
