You're probably not getting a restful sleep. Tossing and turning throughout the night keeps you from getting a good night's sleep. Caffeine close to bedtime is another. During a sleep study, I was told I kicked in my sleep even though I took Ambien. I was still tired & sleepy the next morning. Have your doctor do a complete physical exam to rule out any medical problems. If your mind just won't shut down, you may want to talk to your doctor about prescribing a sleep aid.

Because you haven't eaten for 12 hours, and you sugar levels have probably crashed.

Grab an energy bar and go back to sleep.

If you're a coffee drinker, you may also be in caffeine withdrawal after 12 hours.

Not to mention, if you're not getting what your body needs, you're carrying a "sleep debt." Most americans carry several hours of sleep debt around with them. It takes several long sessions to make up that much lost sleep.

Too much sleep or lack of sleep can make one feel sleepy still. Happens to me. Depends on age. How old are you? Children need 12 hours of sleep whereas adults need only 6 to 8 hours.

your not supposed to sleep more than 7-8 hours a night.getting less or more than these amounts isnt good.obviously if you didnt sleep the night before or your sick then sleeping more is ok.but 12 hours a day is alot! you must be missing out on alot of your life also.sleeping and working...doesnt seem very fullfilling!

Sleep apnea. If you are overweight and/or snore, this is probably the problem. Most likely you have cronic heartburn as well.

There is a 100% cure. CPAP (Pronounced, "See Pap")

You need to go to a "sleep lab" regardless... 8 or 9 should be plenty.

You have a sleep hang-over from sleeping too much. Too much sleep can make you feel groggy. Force yourself to get up after 6-8 hours of sleep...you'll feel better.
