You should expect nothing, but fight for as much as you can get. Why haven't you asked your attorney what they're striving for?

How much treatment did you have? Was it just a hospital visit and that was it? Was it a lot of physical therapy? Did you miss work? How much? Why no details so we can really help you? The short answer is you can expect to receive a reasonable amount based on the actual pain and suffering you incurred. We're just people, we can't make something out of nothing.
To the person with the compression fracture, 12k wasn't a bad settlement. You might have ended up with a little more in your pocket it not for the attorney, but I'm guessing that the total settlement was 18-20k-maybe more since you said there were other costs-(if you were in litigation your attorney probably took 1/3 to 40%). That's also a very good number given the injury.
So if you have a sprained knee and some bruises, I wouldn't expect five figures!

How much do you think a sprained knee and some brusies are worth? Are you so grievously injuried that only $50,000.00 will make it all better? It was an ACCIDENT! Yes, you are entitled to some compensation. NO, you are not entitled to a condo in the Bahamas. To all the idiots that seem to think you should go running to a lawyer -- it's a waste of money. All a lawyer will do is string the claim along for weeks and weeks to make it appear he is fighting tooth and nail to get you a bundle of cash. The truth is insurance companies are not afraid of lawyers and the fact you hire one doesn't make the injuries worth one cent more. Sure they will up the settlement a bit just to shut them up but it will seldom if ever cover the precentage the scum-bag gets for his fee. You can also forget your day in court -- your 'lawyer' will NEVER go to trial for a claim like this. You will have to lose a limb, be blinded, paralized, etc. before he would dare trod you out before a jury. Besides, the insurance co.cannot pay you above the policy limits -- never, ever. Just try being reasonable. See what they offer you. If you feel like they are coming up short, (it is just business, after all) tell them. You can always get your lawyer at a later date if you must.

There are general damages and special damages. Special damages are the bills you had to pay as a result of the car accident. They are proven by the invoices from the repair shop and hospital expenses. General damages are for pain and suffering. Unfortunately, it comes down to how good of an attorney you have. Insurance companies have lots of money and will usually want to settle to avoid going to trial. Trials can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars for the insurance company, so they would much rather settle for $100,000 than risk an adverse judgment. You need a good lawyer!!!

I was in a car accident and broke my back. T12 compression fracture sitting on the spinal cord. I was hospitalized for 2 weeks and bed ridden for 3 months, couldn't work for 6 months .
After the 2 years it took to sue and my Attorney took his cut (bigger than mine w/ costs) I got a lousy 12k.
You should expect zip.

it all depends, on the value of the other driver's
insurance coverage-If he had full coverage you maybe lucky and get some kind of settlement-if not you will have to take the other driver to court-some time the insurance companies will handle the whole thing-it depends on the State your from, your injury, and damage to the car.

Insurance companies will not entertain your claim unless you have a good lawyer to fight for you.
