It depends who you ask.
The Pentecostal Church, and other 'fundamentalist' groups believe it's actually a sign God is speaking through you. They refer to Acts 2, (3 & 4) to justify the belief that 'speaking in tongues' is a sign of divine intervention.
The Catholic Church, however, generally regarded speaking in unknown languages as a sign of demonic posession in the middle ages. The Catholic Church still believes in demonic posession today, but its rules on where it applies are very strict, and I understand the diagnosis is very rarely declared today.
As for me personally, I truly feel psychiatry is a better guide to explaining these phenomena than religion.

Well no........what the problem is, is 1 Corinthians 13:8. the letter and the Spirit are strangling each other. 2 Corinthians 3:6 , I am out of the Church because I speak in Tongues and interpret fluently. I have been told by many Pastors , that very thing! that Tongues are Demonic and if you speak in Tongues , you should stop.

It could, possibly, show the direct influence of God's Will. Those who speak in tongues have made sure that they are not being influenced by Satan's vile lies. They have spent time making sure that this method is a way that one might truly gain wisdom from the One True Source. Otherwise, wouldn't it just be foolish? Please consider that spiritual gifts can come from God and not just be the influence of demons and beings of Evil. Must a True Christian be semi-atheistic and beleive that any method of spiritual interpretation is just a trick by the Deceiver? Is religion only true when it is completely devoid of any miraculous events? Isn't doubting that God can let people do this just another step toward doubting God has any power, that humans can feel and make use of, at all? Do you doubt God?

According to Jesus, there are several "signs" that his followers are true and righteous believers in Christ. Among them are:
- Handling snakes. (Which isn't very impressive really. Ask an exterminator.)
- Raising the dead. (Never been done in a verifiable setting.)
- Drinking "any deadly thing" and remaining "unharmed". (Again, never been done in a verifiable setting.)
-Healing by "laying on of hands". (Lots of anecdotal evidence there, but no solid proof of this phenomenon.)
-Casting out demons. (Lots of stories, no proof.)
And speaking in tongues. (Some guy shouts "Diablo es el Gato" and half the congregation screams "Satan is a pu$$y!" Again, not too impressive...)
Okay, so anyway, this is what Jesus Christ himself said his followers could, would, and should do to convert the wicked. So if you believe it's the work of the Devil, then Jesus must be the Devil.
On the other hand, if you cannot perform these miraculous feats, then one must conclude that your faith is not strong enough to convince someone who is familiar with the Bible of your gods existence.
Interesting conundrum, no?

For everthing God has, the devil has a counterfeit. Speaking in tounges is mentioned in the Bible as a sign to unbelievers. But it also gives some rules as to how they operate. I think it is also mentioned as being one of the lesser gifts. I wouldn't say that anyone who speaks in tongues is possessed by a demon. It could be that they are being moved by the spirit of God or they could be just doing it on their own. The best way to judge is to look at the life of the person. Are they godly in their actions? Or are they evil. If the latter, avoid them.

That is not necassarily the case.
There are time that the Holy Spirit makes that happen, to the effect of translating your speach so others can understand.
On the other hand, if a true christian can silence that person speaking tongues through the authority delegated by Jesus Christ, then it is caused by demons.

I don't think anything is demonically induced. A lot of people who
"speak in tongues" truly believe it. However some of them feel that, because they haven't done so, it is a sign of a sinful nature, and pretend to do so.
Have you ever heard this phenomenon. It sounds like no earthly language ever known to humanity. It requires too great a leap of faith to believe in this.

When the Lord came at pentecost the believers there were so overcome with the Holy Spirit that they started to speak in words they themselves could not understand. Speaking in tongues is taught in the Bible to be a gift of the spirit. Also, interpretation of tongues is known to be a gift of the spirit. So no, I don't believe it's crap coming from a possessed man or woman.

No..I grew up Pentecostal. I was very confused of the speaking of toungues even though I saw it all the time. I only ever did it once, and it scared me and I forced it to stop. It is not a possesion, it is God having you speak a religious language. We dont know what we are saying but it is a prayer about something. If you want to learn more than look it up online. A lot of people that did not grow up with this religion for very harsh opinions, thus it is best to research it.
