He left school a year ago to spend a couple years trying to become a professional golfer(he's really good). But he started smoking weed and now it's starting to sound like its all he cares about. Everytime I see him he tells me he's going to get high later. Do you think its going to ruin his dream of being a pro golfer and should I tell him?

Just let it be. Weed isn't as bad as some would like you to believe.

Well it seems you dont know about weed. It is not a hard drug, and it safer than cigarettes and alcohol. Alcohol can make you lose control. You should concentrate on trying to make that person stop drinking instead. On your body, weed does nothing. Search of statistics and you will find there are no recorded deaths related to weed in history :) All it does to you, is make you more relaxed and easy going. Why would you want that person to stop? I would understand if they smoke TOO much like 4 times a day. Get them to cut down a bit. But stopping is not necessary. Oh and by the way, if you care for your friend, make sure they dont mix their weed with tobacco. This makes smoking worst than cigarettes because weed is meant to leave your lungs entirely, but the tobacco forces it to stay. And that is really bad for your health. Smoke weed alone, and everything will be fine :)

I answer you as a recovering addict. It would do no good to tell him to stop. You could tell him how disappointed you are that he has chosen drugs over a dream. Weed coats your brain and causes you to stop maturing emotionally. It shatters all your dreams and hopes. It makes you lazy and sluggish. Weed is a very harmful drug. It has more then 468 chemicals in it. It is also the gateway to other drugs. He is probably telling himself "it's only weed" but weed is DANGEROUS and it is also illegal. Weed will surely put a damper in his game. Bottom line is...he will have to make this decision himself. And if he thinks like I do the more you tell him not to the more he will.

Yes, tell him.

Smoking weed is no way to become "professional" at anything. It delays maturity and becomes a psychological crutch that is more and more frequently employed (as the addiction grows) to escape or ignore the challenges and stresses that life presents us.

Our normal (non-high) responses to life's challenges is what helps us mature and grow as humans.

There are countless examples of drug-abusers in their early 20's who are accomplishing nothing with their lives and don't have the responsibility or maturity that many 14 year olds have.

If you care about him, you should let him know that you feel he is hurting himself. Become successful in any sport takes total concentration. He can't do it high.
I have a relative that spends most of his time and money on weed. He has been to prison twice because he didn't have enough money to feed his habit so he "borrowed" things from other people without permission. How long will it be before your friend finds he can't afford his happy habit?

Oh come on now. What are the chances really of becoming a professional golfer. Or even be successful as a pro. Weather he's good or not. Don't worry about him. Worry about your self. I assume he's a big boy and can make his own decisions. And if he's any kind of a man, you're opinion won't matter any how.

Yeah you should tell that it can ruin his dream. If you want to get mad on him trying to stop what his doing, then do it. I know some time after that he will realize that you are right. Or you can seek some professional to advice him.
