Muslims fast in the Islamic month of Ramadan. Like the christian calendar, even the muslim calendar has 12 months but is practised on the sighting of the moon and that is why, each year the occurrence of the 1st of Ramadan shifts backwards by 10 days. For eg: if this year it fell on 23rd Sep, next year it will be on around 13th Sep.

Ramadan can be for 29, 30 or 31 days depending on when the moon for the month is sighted.

Sorry, i don't understand how starving ones self and dehydrating ones self can help interior the easing of the international's suffering. easily extremely than attempt to appreciate prefer and starvation of those much less fortunate than ourselves it would be extra helpful to surely circulate out and help those human beings in even though way. Or might that contain surely doing some thing approximately it extremely than thinking approximately it? yet as a Muslim i might invite you to connect me, an atheist, to a Viscount St. Albans sandwich and a pitcher of wine to help better understand the gluttony that abounds at the instant. Sorry, could not help that final bit. You seem a great individual and that i don't mean to offend, yet it rather is probably the flaws that i are not getting approximately any faith. Preying for persons and denying your self common desires does surely not something to ease the suffering of the international's needy - it in simple terms make the guy doing the preying and the fasting sense extra valuable. the persons who rather care are those that supply up their comfortable life form and circulate out and surely do some thing like the persons at Christian help, the purple Crescent and purple circulate, Medecines Sans Frontiers and so on. a pal of mine became a "born back" Christian whilst he became 21. i did not think of too lots approximately it until eventually I heard that years later he and his kin had moved to Cambodia to help orphans. a solid guy, i can enable you realize.

29 or 30 day's depends on moon sighting in the month of ramadan. Except Eid days a Muslim can fast voluntarily any day.
But continuous fasting is not recommended. Fasting also prescribed in bible also. Infact if you see all other faiths you will find some kind of fasting.

Allah says in Holy book ( Al Qura'n)
"O you who believe! fasting is prescribed for you, as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may guard (against evil). " ( Al Qura'n, 2:183)

Fasting is prescribed to Muslims as it was prescribed to those before them, e.g. Christian and Jewish, although the fasting practices of each religion might be different from one another. Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) generally fast for 24 hours on the first Sunday of each month. Like Muslims, they refrain from all drinking and eating unless they are children or are physically unable to fast. Fasting is also a feature of ascetic traditions in religions such as Hinduism and Buddhism.

"The month of Ramadan is that in which the Qura'n was revealed, a guidance to men and clear proofs of the guidance and the distinction; therefore whoever of you is present in the month, he shall fast therein, and whoever is sick or upon a journey, then (he shall fast) a (like) number of other days; Allah desires ease for you, and He does not desire for you difficulty, and (He desires) that you should complete the number and that you should exalt the greatness of Allah for His having guided you and that you may give thanks. " ( Al Qura'n, 2:185)

FOR WHOM FASTING IS MANDATORY?
The obligation of fasting is mandatory on a person who has fulfilled these requirements: He or she must be a Muslim, sane, must have reached puberty, must be healthy, and not in a state of travel; and for women, they must be in a state of purity (clean from menstruation and post childbirth bleeding). If a person fulfills the above prerequisites, fasting becomes valid and mandatory. Inferring from this definition, if one of these conditions is missing, the fast will be invalid. Indeed, it may be better to analyze each category of the definition.

May Allah bless us all, and give us wisdome so we can came out of ignorance and understand teachings of Prophets Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad ( Peace be upon all of them).

Peace to all.
