I had become very depressed. I would not leave the house. I had lost my job due to down sizing. I was on unemployment. I had my check deposited into my bank account. I knew I had to feed my daughter, so we lived on food that could be delivered. We stayed inside with the blinds and curtains pulled. I shut off my phones so no one could contact me. my daughter new she was not allowed to answer the door, but only for the delievery drivers of food for her. no one could no what I was going through. I was very suicidal. I wanted to die. My daughter was going back to school in the fall. So I became more depressed that she was gone. I had to send her to school, or people would get concerned if she was not in school. I layed in bed day and nite and cried. i did not bathe. I could not even watch tv. all i did was cry and plan my funeral. i new i could not leave my daughter so she had to *** with me. two days before school started, i took my daughter out of town to buy clothes for our funeral. i also had to get her back to school supplies, because i was not done planning our funeral so she had to go to school. one day my door bell rang, and it rang and rang. i finally peaked out, it was my daughters principle. i thought oh my god. what happened to my daughter. i was scared so i ran to the door. my daughter had gone to school and told her teacher how I was sad and cried all the time and was planning a funeral. this princaple had known me since I was a kid. I had her for a teacher. my daughter goes to the same school I went to. She refused to leave untill I showered and went with her to the hospital. I was so relieved that it was finally over, that someone had come to save me. I think your friend wants help, and she is waiting for someone to come and save her. Unless she is doing this for attention, either way she needs help. You have to save her. Something is not right in her life and it is bringing her down. You can tell her over and over to go get help, but she wont do it. You have to bring help to her. You need to bring someone to her who is trained and can take her to get help. Call your local social service or hospital and they will give you places to contact. you may be running out of time. so you have to act fast. of course she will not see a dr. and you can not make her, but trained proffessionals can help her and will help her make the first move at getting her depression under control. telling her parents may not be a smart choice. they may be putting so much pressure on her to succeed that they will only look down opon her. When I was hospitalized for depression my mother came to see me and brought my daughter. My mother looked at me and told me I was a looser, and not even smart enough to go through with the suicide. In my mothers eyes I had failed her. You need to go make a phone call now. even if you have to call the police and have them come and get her, and they can put her on a 48 hour hold in a hospital and get her help. you may be running out of time...

Good, extremely skilled/educated authorities corresponding to doctors, attorneys, teachers, surgeons and so on. Will not be precisely immune from lifes problems just when you consider that they so occur to have jobs that bring dwelling a lot of money. However you recognize, many of these gurus do work lengthy hours, and in most cases construct up quite a few stress a long with it, and get traumatised. For example: law enforcement officials have a excessive suicide fee considering that they commonly work long, traumatic hours, and see numerous unhealthy matters within the line of obligation. They see dead our bodies, their lives are on the whole under threat at any time when they tackle a violent crook, and so forth. Working lengthy hours has effects on a individuals social and romantic life, it could actually result in the crumple of marriages and households. Most take care of their profession option good, however I have an understanding of why some tragically do not.

I have had several friends commit suicide. You love your friend enough to go and tell a qualified person who can help her/him even if they get mad at you. You should really be worried if all of a sudden they become very happy because this means they have made up their mind to go ahead with the attempt. If you just sit and do nothing and something happens you will live with the guilt for a very long time...they need meds. This could also be an attempt for attention..even if it is negative. Call his/her parents, tell the school counselor...tell someone and get to the bottom of this before it is too late.

keep a VERY close eye on her. At the first sign of a suicide attempt, call the police. They can Baker act her, and force her to get the help she needs. Something to think about....print out some litature from the internet on depression. She needs to know she is not alone in this. I myself suffered from depression all my life. One little pill a day, and I am now completely normal, with no more suicidal urges. She may think there is something wrong with her mind, that she is crazy. But depression is most often caused by an imbalance of chemicals in the brain. Let her know it is a physical disease, no different than diabeties or other health issues. And remember...ANY SUICIDAL GESTURE MUST BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY! People who say that the gestures are just a call for attention and nothing to be concerned about are complete idiots! Trust me on this one, as my friend had these "harmless little gestures" until the day he took his own life.

How successfully does she struggle with this?

Do you think she is in serious danger? If she is you need to intervene much as you would if she were an alcoholic or drug addict.

Many people who contemplate suicide don't do so seriously. They tend to outgrow it and could benefit from counseling, but don't absolutely need it in many cases.

This is not an easy call. Your friend could be bi-polar or could be depressed or could be any combination of things. If you think she is in danger she probably is. You should talk to someone who can advise you on specific things you can and should do.

The county you're in should have a Mental Health Department - you can look it up in the phone book under the County Government section, or call information. They should have a crisis line that she can call and talk to a mental health professional. She can do it anonymously, so it will be less intimidating that talking to someone in person.

You need to not ask her to do things, if you are concerned she might kill herself you need to talk to a doctor, a nurse or a counselor right away. You can't worry about hurting her feelings if there is even a tiny chance she could hurt herself.
