Sorry the first answer has some incorrect answers. She must be thinking of low-fat, not low carbs.

Many vegetables are high in carbs. Steamed or deep fried, the carbs are the same.

Many high calorie, high fat foods are low on carbs, many have no carbs.

Generally foods high in proteins are low in carbs.

So while, potato chips are very high in carbs, fried pork rinds have none.

So meats with nothing added are low including bacon. Bacon is very high in calories and fats but has no carbs. (I'm repeating myself, but people get the concepts confused.)

Most cheese are low. This does not include cottage cheese or ricotta.

If you are going to try a low-carb diet, you'll need a c good chart. There are a number of inexpensive books with comprehensive charts, where you'll find out things like that the net carbs in almaonds are low. This does not apply to other nuts.

It is the net carbs that count. What that means is that grams of fiber in a food subtracted from the grams of carbs equals the net carbs.

Even more than most types of diets, a low-carb diet requires that you stay faithfully on it for it to work, especially at the beginning.

Important last point. Since you'll be avoiding fruit and most vegetables, you need to take vitamins. There are mutivtamins designed for those on low-carb diets.

vegetables like broccoli, cabbage (this one is super good cause it actually helps you burn calories) , cauliflower, green peppers, mushrooms, lettuce....stay away from potatoes! stay away from tomatoes! Yams have 1/2 the carbs that potatoes do. Protein doesn't have carbs, some nuts are the same way, such as pistachios. Stay away from fruits and pop and bread. water is a good one with no carbs or calories. eggs are OK, and so is Canadian bacon and some cheeses made from skim milk, mozzarella, provolone and SOME Cheddars. As far as milk, drink SKIM, everything else has carbs and calories. Black coffee is good, along with tea. Stay Away from fruit juices!

There are plenty of food with little carb. I recommend boiled egg white. It is protein that you must have, even if you are on diet. The egg white is only 17 kcal for a large AA egg. If you eat the yolk too, that is just another 53 Kcal.

Don't starve yourself, just keep off oil and fat but stay with protein and minerals.

All beef, all pork, all fish, all shellfish, all cheese, all chicken and poultry have none. Also eggs have none. Eat all you want but watch the sauces.

Vegetables, even salad greens have a few. Eat some but it's not unlimited.

The sugars and starches have lots and you have to avoid them. If you get a sugar craving - remember that whipped cream has none. :)
