It's sad that so many women have to get welfare because the child's father can't help financially. If a woman wants a child why not have it with a guy who makes a lot of money and has a good job?

Well that question could go so many ways its not funny....but not all people get on welfare because they are with a father who can't support. What about a man on welfare with a kid? I guess he chose the wrong woman too... Things happen you never know everyones story. What part are you the woman with a great man?
PS I am but don't down others, and he doesn't take care of me we take care of each other and our family.

They just are not picky enough. They fall in love with some loser and then get pregnant by accident. Many years ago women were very picky about a mate. Before they would even consider being with a man they would find out how well he could provide for her and possibly children. If women were more like this many men would work very hard to be successful. Men used to work very hard so they could provide for a mate. Many men are still like this but some women wont even give them a chance.

Most just get pregnant as a side effect of having sex. Of my HS friends, almost all of them got several women pregnant. It is nothing more than irresponsible sex. I honestly think that perhaps 1 in 10 children are planned. The parents may claim that they were planned, but they were not.
Because welfare exists they have no reason not to become pregnant. Countries that don’t have welfare have few unplanned pregnancies.
The good news is unplanned pregnancy is down in the USA. Why, because back in the 90’s they limited welfare to a lifetime maximum of 5 years or so.

well hey boJangle. a little fyi. The so called "welfare" that ALL this so called single mothers get on...They have to give all the information on the absent parent. Whatever amount of welfare they get sooner or later the absent parent has to pay it back. Im in school right now, and I went and applied to get it. Thats how it works. I dont know if youre a mother or not, but i would do it all over again with the same piece of "sh#t" before just to have my son. Watch what you say, you NEEEVEEERR know what could happen and what could change in your life in the future. Dont try to be so hard on people that you have no idea of what their situation is. Cause sometimes women are stupid and accidents happen. I had two, thats right two, pill babies! Babies that were concieved while I was on birth control. I was stupid to stay with him the first time. He did have a job we weren't on welfare he was just an a**hole. but then it happened again. I left him a long time ago now. I don't care what I hed to go through to get them. I love them and I wouldn't trade them for the world!

It is sad but for one thing we can't help who we fall in love with. Lot's of women are ignorant to the fact that there is free birth control and also live with the delusion that "it won't happen to me". We also live with the illusion that things will get better. "If i get pregnant, surely he will get a job." There are more people who have minimal jobs and not very much money. More then half the people in the US live at poverty level. And let's just face it....some women have children because they can get government assistance.

Just put that in with why do women have kids before they are ready, have abortions, give their kids up for adoption, throw their newborns in dumpsters, abuse/ don't take good care of thieir kids, let their husband/boyfriend abuse their kids, oh the list goes on and on. People all over the world do all kinds of stupid things involving kids (involving all kinds of things for that matter). There are all different reasons for it, but i think the most common is ignorance. They have no idea how to do something properly, don't understand how much effort they will have to put in, how much of a commitment it is, or that it can actually happen that way or to them. They don't undersand until it's too late, and the only thing they can do is move on, and (hopefully) learn from their mistakes, and do better next time. Some people do this by taking advantage of the services available (the only thing they can do) and some don't do it at all, by doing horrible things to their kids.

I think that the better question would be:
Why don't men, upon finding out that they will be a father, step up and be a man? Why don't they bust their a.sses to support their family and not force the mother's to struggle in life to raise their children?

Because getting laid means everything, consequences don't even enter the mind(?). Just like there is no thought of the welfare of any possible kids healthwise or otherwise...

Because they have low self esteem and think that by if they have a child there will always be someone there to love them, even if the man leaves.
