My daughter will be 5 soon, and I am looking for a good place or event I can take her and 1 or 2 friends to on her special day. She is your typical girly girl who loves ponys, dolls, dress up, glitter, but also has an adventurous streak and would love a balloon ride or something like that. Any ideas? Anything you have done that worked out well for this age group?

When my daughter turned five two years ago we rented a room at a local Holiday Inn. We also requested their breakfast room to which we held a party in. Our Holiday Inn allowed whoever was at the party to swim in the pool, and since we had like 30 kids there (we have a HUGE family) it was awesome. We had about 15 adults there to watch the kids as they swam. We decorated with a Barbie theme, and had pizza from Pizza Hut (they are the only ones that deliever in my area). We passed put goddie bags and played a couple games (but the kids were way more interested in swimming).

You could also take her (and a couple friends) to:
~ build a bear workshop
~ American Girl
~ Chuckie Cheese (or Discovery Zone or Ceasar land whatever is in your area)
~ a hotel with a water slide/park area
~ have a cute little "tea" party at home with friends
~ have all the girls dress up and then serve finger sandwiches and drinks and cake and ice cream
~ have a dress up/fashion show at your home.
~ buy a barbie camcorder and let the girls put on their own show

~~~ something I did with my neice and daughter (who are 10 weeks apart) when they were that age (I took care of my neice for about two years while her parents got their crap together). I let both girls get dressed up in "grown up" clothes, make up, shoes, etc. and then took them to lunch and shopping at the mall. Of course we got a million stares, but the girls had a blast.
Good Luck, and remember if someone offers to help with the party TAKE IT, it lets you enjoy the day a little bit too.
I have a soon to be 13 year old Goddaughter, an 8 year old niece, a soon to be 6 year old nephew, and a 4 year old Godson, all who lives five minutes away so i'm extremely close to them and very much apart of their lives, and all they care about is:
1) is their friends there
2)is there cake and ice cream
3)is there games
All else doesn't matter, ponies, balloons. Fun, yes, but can do without. Your best bet with hyper 5 year olds would be CHUCKIE CHEESE'S! less clean up, and they'll have a good time, and even meet some other kids there and play with them. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
Let her decide what kind of party. Give her a few options. Decide on a theme together and let her choose decorations if you decide to do something at home.
You can make it as simple as a costume party. Let each child dress as their favorite princess or fairy. This time of year is perfect for finding costumes, with halloween coming up. Also, it would give her the chance to wear it more than once.
Dress her up! New hairdo for the day. Maybe even some of mom's lipgloss. Its her day, remember that.
Shes only gonna be young once, and her being happy is what matters most.
I understand this well being the mom of 2 girls myself ages 7 and 4.
Check you local phone book for a Tea Party room. I live in Oklahoma and we have a place where the children can go and dress up and have tea and cakes just like grown ups. The birthday girl gets special treatment. My daughter loved it. We did it for her 6th birthday.
balloon ride at 5 kinda risky. Try a place that has a carousel, like a park or adventure park place that has a kiddie's side. Dunno where you live, or how the weather's like but it's a start.
Check your yellow pages locally or on-line, talk to your local community center, you could probably rent a place from the information they provide for kids parties. Good luck.
Have you asked her what she wants to do for her birthday? Is there a ceramics place (Color Me Mine) nearby? This is where they can buy a ceramic item, paint it and then after it's placed in the kiln, they will have their own pottery. And since her and her friends have all made something for themselves, it's something they will always cherish. You can then take all of them to Chucky Cheese for food and soda, and then celebrate with cake and ice cream after wards.
Whatever you decide to do, I'm sure your daughter will have fun.
Good luck!
I would say let her pick to some extent! ask her what she'd like...
or you can pick,whats her favorite color? use that as a theme,the girls wear that color,cake that color,etc...
or show/cartoon....
or do a "fashion show" let them dress up and take pictures,let them pretend they are models...
if you dont have ponys,maybe find someone who would rent or "lend" ya one or 2 for rides.
Ive found my daughter loved the birthday crafts,do a foam thingy...u can get the kits @ walmart....let them glue and go nuts with feathers,glitter,jewels etc....
good luck
Make it a princess party and make a creative treasure hunt.
Sorry, I'm not in a very 'ideaish' mood. I hope she has an awesome birthday and that it's not stressful for you to think of what to do!
Good luck!
