Absolutely not! How dare the government tell us what we can eat. I don't even feel the government should have the authority to tell bar owners they cannot allow smokers. This is America..land of free and land of choice. Our freedoms are being taken away little by little...seat belt laws, I think seat belts are wonderful and I wear mine, but who are they to tell us we must. You're not going to tell me the insurance companies are not putting big dollars into the politicians pockets to make and enforce these laws. We might as well live in a foreign country, they probably have more freedom than us anymore.

There is already at least 1 European country that has banned trans-fats. The food industry has know the dangers of it long enough for them to come up with a viable alternative.

I try not to eat garbage like that and find it frustrating that I can't go out and expect to get a healthy meal.

All you people that are complaining would probably the 1st to sue if you are sick from your spinach because the government did not protect you. And when you get heart disease, you will be whining then too.

I am all for letting industry regulate themselves, but if they don't, someone must step in.

Not everyone eats junk food all the time. I don't there should be a ban. I cook 5-6 days a week for my family, more than one meal a day. I enjoy letting someone else cook for me. We don't always go to fast food places. If they put a ban on trans fat, 99.9% of food places would have to close. If that happened, someone would have to make up the difference in tax$$ that eating out generates. That is the government for you; wanting to control your life, then make you pay for it.

Well, honestly, I feel the government shouldn't BAN trans fat. The government SHOULD make it important to inform the public of the potential risks of trans fats. Trans fats have MUCH HIGHER health risks than both saturated and unsaturated fats. Trans fats ALSO raise bad cholestrol, which in turn clog the arteries. I feel we would all be able to come to an agreement if the government just spent their money informing the people to the potential health risks of trans fats and allow the people to make up their own minds.

I believe that restaurants should clearly state what is used in cooking and what is in food. However, banning the use of trans fat in cooking is, as I feel, taking it too far. It is clearly up to the consumer wether or not they eat this food, it is not right to punish the restaurants. Saw that on the news when I was leaving McDonalds, the place I work, last night.

I think its dumb! I don't think its right. I agree, they should state what foods are cooked in what, maybe make a statement on the menu of what trans-fat does to the body, and let the consumer choose. I see in the future alot of angry people over this one!

They have NOT passed the law yet, I am reminded of the little law they tried to pass putting extra tax on bad foods such as fast food, well, it never got passed, i really don't think this law will be passed either.

I have to applaud the efforts to ban anything unhealthy for your body, if we can somehow be pro-active like this and ban everything that harms us in the long run, that's great. Everyone will be healthier, less depressed, and so on. I'm tired of seeing those people who have to waddle to get anywhere because they are so fat from eating junk and more junk. We should take away some of their money too, because they just waste it shoving fat in there mouth and pooping it out only to shove more fat in there. Most of them are woman who can't find a man to satisfy their hunger.

OK OK.. first of all they haven't banned anything yet... they are considering it... and the way our government moves on things I wouldn't be to worried....

On one hand they are probably saving a lot of lives, heart disease and obesity are a huge epidemic in America (and not other countries)....

On the other hand its America damn it! We have the freedom to eat what we want when we want and I don't don't think that's going to change anytime soon.

the government should use our tax dollars a bit more wisely.

instead of pushing us around telling us that we shouldn't live our lives and kill ourselves the way we want to...... they should be using our money for better things... LIKE...

health freaking care! energy... programs to help those without work, the elderly, the handicapped... so on.

i don't get it.. they send a kid off to war to put a cap in a civilians a.s.s and then the kid gets his head popped off with explosives and yet we can't die by eating foods we enjoy eh?

strange.

I dunno... if they do ban it, it infringes upon our rights, but it's a health thing, and considering there are so many alternatives, I think it'd be a good idea to ban trans fat.
