Peace CORPS. It is only a US organization. There are similar programs. The Canadians have CUSO, the Brits have VSO, the Kiwis have Kiwi Volunteers and the Aussies have AVI:

Dull Crayon's answer is wrong. Only a handful of industrialized nations have Peace Corps equivalents.
