Unless the lawyer worked for free, I'd say the money you paid said lawyer was enough and therefore flowers would be unnecessary. Then again, if this lawyer went above and beyond for you, then sending flowers would be a nice way to thank your lawyer and his staff.

I don't know if any sort of etiquette would expect it in this day and age, but certainly there's rarely an inappropriate time to send a person flowers and show your gratitude.
Unless of course there was some sort of strange exception in the laws of physics where the entire universe would collapse upon itself in the event of a very specific action that involves you giving someone flowers, I suppose that's not a good time to do it.

Absolutely, I gave my lawyer and his staff a box of see's candies to show my appreciation for all their hard work. It is never wrong to show kindness and appreciation. Flowers or a box of chocolate are usually an appropriate gift to say thank you.

With the paycheck they are getting, its best to save your money, after all lawyers are evil. However, I think that it would be nice if it was for a public defender, not a private firm.

A thank you card is more proper. But they probably wouldn't mind the flowers, regardless.

Most people don't do anything, so I doubt the law firm would be expecting anything and would be pleasantly surprised. I would make it a fruit basket though instead of flowers.

It certainly is not necessary, but it is a very kind thing to do. I am sure the attorney and his staff will appreciate it.
I am happy things worked out well for you.
