okay, first off is the dark brown color natural? if so you can prelighten with a mixture of bleach with a lower volume developer/peroxide( 20 volume) if the hair has been colored dark brown you can use a color remover it can be mixed with water, which can be much less damaging. when you are ready to color with red i say 10 volume devolper/peroxide, the goal here is to deposit color the lower volume enables better color deposit much less fading, lets face it red fades but if you use higher volume devolper you are guarenteed severe fading not to mention some seriously dried out hair. when you cover hair with red color make sure its not plastered to your scalp, you need air circulation to process the color properly. there now your'e informed.

If you want it really bright...u have to bleach it first. But it'll become pink after washing it a couple of times. Red fades quickly. You can also use level 30 developer...and that'll get you some decent results without bleaching your hair first.

Yes, it is. All you have to do is bleach it first, then use a deep-conditioning serum, then dye it red. To go that much lighter on your hair, you have to bleach away the dark first, like white-out.

I think you should go get that done with a hair stylist. I know it can be done, I know someone with black and red hair. After you get it dyed it requires maintenance or else the red will turn kind of Burgundy fast.

yep, if you want it to be bright red, you have to bleach your hair first. whatever you do, don't do this at home. go to a professional.
