I am a "balding man". "Balding" is as much a mental trauma for a man, as menopause for a woman. I have been thinking of getting a wig or a hair-piece. People usually make fun of, and redicule a man wearing a hair-piece. When women wear wig, they all talk about it in a positive way and praise each other. Why is this double standard. Is it OK for men to wear a wig or hair-piece?

No it's not. Women are trained from cradle to grave that the most important thing about them is their appearance. Men, it's just the opposite. A man who is insecure about his appearance is VERY unattractive. The point here is that being bald does not effect your attractiveness. Caring enough about going bald that you wear a piece, makes you unattractive. The standard way to handle this is to adopt a full bald style. In other words, shave your head and perhaps, wear a facial hard style that augments the bald look like a mustache and chin only beard. This will remove the blocker in your head with regard to confidence over being bald. However, it is not really necessary. Being comfortable with your balding head is just as effective, albeit much more difficult to pull off than adopting a style where it doesn't matter.

There are many factors that can attribute to hair recession or massive hair fall and you need to find out which one exactly is responsible for the problem you are having now. Of course male pattern baldness is still the most common cause, but, for instance, if you are a woman things are deinitely different! This is the reason why you will need to really dig down and see the source of your problem.

Other causes of hair loss may include (both in men and women): severe mental or emotional stress, excessive use of coloring or bleaching agents, traction alopecia or excessive strain on the scalp due to braiding or corn rowing, hormonal changes, alopecia areata or hair loss due to autoimmune diseases, and many more. Each of these conditions will require a different approach in order to achieve success regardless of whether you're going to be using conventional or natural methods.

In my opinion it's much better to use natural methods as opposed to conventional ones, they're cheaper, have less to no side effects, and often more effective.

A good way of regaining your full head of healthy natural hair is well described on this guide: http://hairagain.toptips.org
Cheers.

Just my opinion, but I think you should just clip it off short rather then getting a hairpiece. I think allot of bald men look good. This is really your choice though. If you really want to give a hair piece a try,go to Richard Farrell hair replacement website. If it wasn't for Richard, I would say NO WAY about a hair piece, but Richards seems to really know what he is doing and the hair pieces look really good. If you go to the web site there is a video on how he does it. Good luck in what ever you choose.

My personal feeling is a man is as good looking & sexy bald if he wears it with confidence. It turns me off when I see a man with huge combover, a cheap wig etc. I guess it is a double standard but baby I"d think you were sexy as h--- without all that. Shave your head, wear a big gold earing, strut down the street & be confident that you care well for yourself therefore you have the power to care for your family. You may be surprized how women respond.

Even if you don't shave what's left of it, I'd rather see a man with a bald spot or completely bald than with one of those ridiculous hair pieces.

There are certain hari salons that like glue the hair on. I went to a Paul Mitchell school outside of New Orleans a couple of years ago and one of the guys was bald on top. He went to a salon and they "glued" ( i dont know the term) hair on his head. When we saw we were amazed! He look great! the only downfall is its about a thousand bucks and you have to keep getting it redone. If youre interested email me and Ill get the number.
I personally like shaved heads and gotees (sp)

I am in a similar situation. I say I'm 'happy' to go bald, but when it comes down to it it may be a different matter. I hope I have the courage to go bald...

It's all just a matter of personal preference. I have short hair and guys such as it. And i prefer a guy with short hair over a person with long hair because long curly hair tends to make guys look also girly.
