This is just some of what was said on Tyra Banks show yesterday (go to www.TyraShow.com) about morbidly obese teens weighing 4, 5 hundred pounds.Click on Show Recaps.
Tyra welcomed the teens’ parents to hear how they felt about their children’s struggle with weight. Dakota’s mother Tammy confessed she had no idea her son was so hurt and felt like she had failed as a mother. Molly’s mom Connie began to cry as she talked about the kids that teased her daughter. She explained they’d been to court because of all of the school Molly missed, and judges didn’t understand. She even faced the possibility of jail time if Molly missed more school. Cassandra’s mother said her daughter wasn’t born fat; she made her that way by feeding her whatever she wanted as a child. Able’s mom confessed she put locks on the refrigerator and if he wanted more food than the amount he was rationed, he had to work out even harder. Psychotherapist Dr. Michelle Callahan said she heard a lot of guilt from the mothers and suggested they turn the guilt into empowerment. She urged them to figure out what their own issues were with food and make small steps like changing portion control and swapping foods with low-fat alternatives. Tyra welcomed Jorge Cruise, a weight loss expert who was also overweight as a child. Jorge urged the kids to turn their pain into power. He said they had their entire life before them and was happy to see they wanted to make a change. Jorge went on to explain his concept of The 3-Hour Diet, which promoted healthier eating habits. CLICK HERE to learn more about The 3-Hour Diet. Jorge offered to help all of the teens with personal fitness and nutrition plans. To help with communication and support, Best Buy gave each of the teens their own laptop computer with web cams to keep in touch with Jorge and each other! You don't need to be told that overweight is unhealthy for anyone. Avoid sugar, white products, hydrogenated oil, fried foods, and dairy and eat more fruits, vegetables, fish and chicken and water. Exercise, walk a block and work up to a mile or more.
