hi, maybe some of u just answered my question earlier, about im on a food budget and i only have $30 til payday which is the 19th. ok i said i didnt want to go on foodstamps cuz i would feel low. This yahoo answerer thinks im judging her because i dont want to go on foodstamps and she works for 3 hours a day selling newspapers, she has a son and a working husband.

Im not bringing down the foodstamp program, but i believe that if u can do something better about ur life, then u should. There are much better jobs out there that definitely cater to working mothers, like avon, johnson and johnson, and ibm (it came on yahoo and cnn.)
Do u think that lady should have went off like that? What is your opinion of the foodstamps progam?

Until you walk a mile in their shoes, you shouldn't make any judgments......that they should get a better job! Do you think that those jobs you pointed out are available to just anyone, anywhere?????? Do you think it's so easy to just get another job????? or just a job????? NEVER ridicule someone's job! Anyways, those programs are there for anyone to use if they meet the qualifications. One should never feel bad for accepting and using food stamps! Some people do not have all the resources to get another job., i.e. transportation, availability, babysitters, their health and/or age. Having another job may just disqualify them from receiving food stamps......I read her response and feel she did not go off on you as you think.
It just made her feel angry that she is getting help cause she truly needs it. And people seem to get the wrong idea about what the food stamp program is all about.
==================================
The Food Stamp Program serves as the first line of defense against hunger. It enables low-income families to buy nutritious food with Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards. Food stamp recipients spend their benefits to buy eligible food in authorized retail food stores.

The Program is the cornerstone of the Federal food assistance programs, and provides crucial support to needy households and to those making the transition from welfare to work.

No, I don't think she should have went off like that.

The food stamp program is a joke anyhow.. Unless you have kids then you don't get ****. My boyfriend is on the food stamp program because he's on dialysis, he's not allowed to work or he loses is insurance, and doesn't get much money from SSI... and he only gets $10 a month, which I think is pretty messed up.

Yet my neighbors who are the biggest welfar suckers, get around $1500 a month (they brag about it all the time).. Both of them are able to work, yet they lie and say they have their disabled son living with them, when in fact he doesn't - he lives up the road from us.

So in my opinion, they need to do some major fixing of the food stamp system, or do away with it all together.

I think that if family's need help then by all means get it and use it until your off your feet. I don't think they should live off of it but use it if they need the help. If they have children then they need it to help feed them but there is also food banks and pantries for that matter.

I don't think that people should go off and start yelling at someone that might have a different opinion about something no one thinks a like. Everyone has the right to think and say what they choose right?

If someone is going to abuse the system then I think they should be fined, but if they need it then like I said by all means use it if you can. Get off of it as soon as you can.

So to answer you question, no I don't think she should have went off like that, you are saying what you think and there is no crime in that....

I think the program is there for people who need it and it is another right as an American. If you don't use your rights, you lose your rights. Sadly, you do not have to be an American citizen in this country to be on welfare. American welfare should be for American citizens, and because most Americans are too proud (or whatever their reason is) to be on welfare, the benefits of the food stamp and like programs go to illegal aliens.

I think that nowadays people feel like they have to defend themselves b/c there are people who abuse the welfare system. There are people who really do need help and others shun them b/c a bad report or news story came out about people abusing the system. It may have been wrong to lash out on you, but maybe that is the way she is

I know for a fact lots of people abuse the system. If she's not one of them she shouldn't be on the defensive!

AND! It should be limited. I don't believe people should be allowed to stay on it for a long period of time. Stop wasting tax payers money!

I'm the one who recommended SPAM and pasta.

When I was in your shoes, I bought food stamps from the crackheads near my school, and bought SPAM and pasta from the market.
