end the letter with the phrase "God be with you til we meet again" rather than "sincerely" or "yours in Christ"? I'd like to say that but I don't know if it's proper ettiqutte. I almost never write letters but this person doesn't read email and it was something I preferred to say in a letter versus a phone call. Thanks.

By the way, this is a letter to a close friend of mine.

Just to clarify, the letter is a personal one (I never even mention my faith when I write business letters) and the phrase comes from a church hymn for those of you who haven't heard it before.

And I also should add, you've all been very helpful. Thank you!

Sure. I write letters (and email) and close with phrases like that often. I also get letters closed similarly, and not only from those that I have written to. I believe it is fairly common for Christians to do this. A fairly popular radio host used to sign off with something like "here, there or in the air." We use these phrases to express our beliefs and our sincere thoughts. If you mean it, it is fine.

When writing a personal letter, as opposed to a business letter, any salutation and signature is acceptable. Remember that you're writing to a friend, and speak from the heart.

If this is a business letter though, unless it is inter-church or intra-church business, do NOT use religious terminology. It is unprofessional in such a case. Of course, if you are writing to another church or to someone else in your own church for church business, then such greetings or signatures are acceptable.

That sounds like a nice ending to a very personal letter to your friend. As long as the letter is personal, and not business, you can write just about anything you like to your friends!

If the letter in question is business -related, then it is generally considered unprofessional. Cold, but true.

Yes , you can sign it how ever you like, especially if it is a close friend. you can say

Lord Bless
God Bless
Lord be with you
Your brother/sister in Christ
In Christ's love
many different ways, when writing a friend I don't think etiquette, has to be a concern.
hope this helps!

If you felt like saying that then I assume you must speak in that type of phrases also. If so, your friend won't be put out.

I see no reason why you could not say this. In fact, it is a pleasant closing.

trancend all of that,

say,

Respectfully

don't worry about 'right or wrong' because that is determined by others in your circles and you can never please all of them

just go with Golden Rule and use respect

to all people not just them...
