Motrin is the other thing you can use. Some say it works better for children than Tylenol. You can have a fever the first day or two with just a cold. If it goes away by the third day, youll usually be ok. If the fever doesnt go away, Id get the child to the doctor. Its most likely an infection.

As long as it doesn't get too high (above 103) then let it run it's course. A fever is the bodies way of killing the bad guys. It raises the bodies temperature to a level that the viral/bacterial/whatever is unable to sustain life. when that battle is won the temperature goes back down. Your job is to monitor the temperature to insure it does not go too high-the body will continue to raise the temperature until it has killed the viral/bacterial/whatever microbes. Sometimes it gets a little over zealous and you need to lower the fever. cold washcloths usually works and, yeah, something for the discomfort.

The second part--yes you can have a fever with a cold. A cold is the body sloughing off the critters it has killed. The discharge (snot) is what the body uses to carry the stuff away. The green color or yellow color indicates there is active infection so there would usually be a fever.

I believe it would depend on alot of things such as how old the child is, how long the child has had the fever and how high it's gotten. You can have a fever with a cold but the best advice comes from your pediatrician.

FEVER IS A SIGH OF INFECTION. THE IMMUNE SYSTEM IS HEATING UP THE BLOOD TO FIGHT THE INFECTION. LET THE BODY DO IT'S JOB AND WATCH THE FEVER IF IT GO UP TOO HIGHT THEN BRING IT DOWN BUT LET IT GO AND GIVE THE CHILD JUICE AND VIT-C OR ECHINACEA. ALOT OF REST. E- MAIL ME AND I'LL TELL YOU INFO ON PRODUCTS THAT WILL HELP ON IMMUNE SYSTEMS FOR CHILDREN AND A GREAT WAY TO FIGHT COLDS AND FLU'S.

make them lay in bed and put lots of covers on them and a cool washcloth to break the fever, my mom always did that for me......yes i was uncomfortable and would sweat like mad, but in a few hours my fever always broke.
