xanax works for 8 hours or so... but its never good to take it and drink in the same day. it can cause a coma if you do. xanax is never a good drug to take in the am at all and never take it when you plan to drink. between alcohol slowng down your nerves and the xanax it can be deadly. the cautions they give and tha i have read are not accurate. NEVER mix the two. do not listen to those who fake knowledge... NEVER DRINK AND TAKE XANAX IN THE SAME DAY!!!!

NO --the reason is not so much of timing your drinks and xanax far enough a part so they dont interact as much but more the fact that xanax is a benzodiazepine.

This drug is a mild sedative and muscle relaxer which can have a chemical reaction with alcohol that can kill or induce a coma. It does not matter how much--it could be as little as one pill and one drink.

Over sedation is also a risk as it surpresses ones ability to breath --both xanax and alcohol are depressents.
Be very careful!

• Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. Xanax will cause drowsiness and may cause dizziness. If you experience drowsiness or dizziness, avoid these activities.
• Avoid alcohol while taking Xanax. Alcohol may increase drowsiness and dizziness caused by Xanax.
• Do not crush, chew, or break the extended-release form Xanax XR. Swallow them whole. These tablets are specially formulated to release the medication slowly in the body.
• Xanax is habit forming. You can become physically and psychologically dependent on the medication. Do not take more than the prescribed amount of medication or take it for longer than is directed by your doctor. Withdrawal effects may occur if Xanax is stopped suddenly after several weeks of continuous use. Seizures may be a side effect of sudden discontinuation of the medication. Your doctor may recommend a gradual reduction in dose.
