Its not really about OUR freedom, its about our governments freedom, and its at odds with the world. These people are not trying to kill Americans, they're trying to get our ATTENTION! Our government and our policies really intrude on other countries liberties and progress, but we don't hear about that. Of course they shouldn't have crashed planes into us and killed thousands of innocents, but these people have no voice, they feel like violence is the only way someones going to listen. Our president has turned their plea into a war cry by telling us they want to take democracy away. These people want to be left alone to their own ways, its American intrusion that pushes them. They want us out of their country COMPLETELY. We have fiscal investments over there, so we stay. This pushes them against our troops. The more we kill, the more injustice they feel and the more empowered they feel to fight back. They are fighting for THEIR country. THEIR freedoms. But alas, we have made quite a mess, and are now obligated to fix what we broke. We'll be over there till the end of time. I support our troops, they are brave and willing to sacrifice for ME. I cannot fathom a proper "thank you" for this, but I believe continuing my quest for happiness is enough for them. Thats all they want for us, and thats the reality that keeps them going. But for all of this, I think they have been put in a position of danger that is unneccessary. It is too late to cry "Bring them home". The damage has been done, and they must stay to see it out to the end. Arabs want our hands out of their pockets and their country. We want to stay and protect our investments from their newly installed leaders. Our troops are sent to do this. Saudis own one third of our economy. If that gets shaky, then we will buckle at the knees and will suffer and struggle to recover.

Many people would like it be I personally think (layman's opinion that is, not a sociologist or a politician); terrorists are minorities within populations and are unable to sustain a full scale war; I also believe however, you never know, and something of much larger magnitude (but not as catastrophic as a WWIII) could be somehow triggered; just look at Iran, Syria and Israel, this place has always been close to a disaster.
Basically, most governments and people in general are too wise to undergo such a thing.

No, the War on Terrorism will not be World War III for a number of reasons.

First, the act of declaring war is pretty much out of date. We haven't declared war since World War II. Vietnam, for example, we fought under the Gulf of Tonkin resolution.

Second, the war on terror is not fought in the same way as past wars. Past wars had symmetric warfare, where big army fought big army on fronts. Since terrorists don't have that kind of organization, they rely on asymmetric warfare, such as car bombs, improvised explosive devices, and other tactics that can inflict a large amount of damage (physically and psychologically) without the need for organization.

Hope this suffices.

The War on Terror is dependent entirely on the nations who are now not participating in order to become a "World war."

I truly don't understand why every nation in the world, including the Muslim nations, are not taking up arms to defeat the Islamic terrorists.

They have made their threats (convert to Islam-or die), they have killed thousands of innocent men, women and children (in the name of god, no less) and their tactics and objectives are just plain demented.

Every civilized nation should be absolutely ashamed of themselves if they tolerate this behavior and turn a blind eye to the Islamic radicals' threats.

No, I do not. Terrorism has been around for a long time and may be around for as long as humans are around. We have to accept that and find the proper means of combating it.
