As someone else answered, BP is ususally temporary with recovery starting in approximately 2 weeks and full recovery coming in 3 to 6 months. So, unless your doctor told you otherwise, know the condition will pass with recurance rare. But your question is how to stay calm not how to relieve depression. Check with your doctor to see if your agitation is part of the BP. But if it's psychological know that self-calming is a life-long practice. So read up on various mental practices, disiplines (eg meditation) and physical exercies (tai chi, yoga). But life is not a fast food restaurant so don't expect any sudden results. To start you off, try counting your breath 1 to 10 then start at one again trying to keep with it for a few minutes then for longer periods. Focusing on your breath requires discipine but if you stick with it, as time goes by you'll start to be better able to detach from the thoughts and fears which are agitating you. (The key is to gently maintain an alert aware state, not to strain at it or get drowsy and fall asleep.) And don't let other people know your doing this. People are seldom supportive of self-discipline.

I had it some years ago. The whole left side of my face froze up. My doctor had me tape my eye shut at night. During the day I had to wear an eye patch. Plus use eye drops several times a day. It took a couple weeks to go away by itself. It cleared up,but not 100%. Check out some sites for it on google.

Glad I nailed that one but remember that it is almost always TRANSIENT and will likely disappear, then you can reassure other people who get it.

It will take a while, just get some things you have put off done and you will not feel like this time is wasted. And rest, rest, rest. Order in, take it easy. Listen to books on tape. Anything that you find comfort in.

Are you taking any medication? Prednisone helped me. It takes a while for it to go away but have Patience. There are side effects of the meds too. It kept me awake and made me nervous but in the end i was glad I followed the doctors order.

Volunteer, garden, reach out to folks you haven't talked to in a while -- don't talk about your problems. Just listen. Getting involved in things beyond ourselves quite often helps. At least for a bit. Meanwhile, follow the other advice, and remember: This, too, shall pass.
