We appear to be more mired in Iraq than we were in 'Nam. A good bit of the enemy is not indigenous to Iraq-they're streaming in from all over the Middle East to make it part of their Jihadist mission to kill the infidels; the rest are hellbent on eliminating certain ethnic groups within Iraq. We can not fail in Iraq, therefore there is no exit strategy. And I think some of the politicians admit their errors and miscalculations. This is a brand new type of war, with no great battle plans to follow.

The evidence is mounting up, supporting your conclusion.

Unfortunately, the costs are extraordinary:
- 2,709 US military lives lost, and climbing
- 19,945 reported US military casualties
- $7 billion per month in defense and reconstruction costs, and climbing (estimated $570 billion by 2010)
- loss of US prestige and moral authority
- a military which is being stretched further every day
- an Executive branch with no credibility
- a Congress without a backbone to question the lies and oppose the policies
- a media that went along with the deception

Tragically, I don't see any changes which will change the status quo. How much longer will the madness continue?

Bound's hubby here:

Vietnam became "Vietnam" because Congress "fought the war" instead of letting the military fight the war. As long as Congress does not allow the military to do the job it specializes in, and allow the military to try to win, Iraq will become another "Vietnam".

Right now, too many people who are ill informed are playing Monday morning quarterback to the military establishment. In this conflict there is more than meets the eye. We can not legislate the outcome of this conflict, as we can not legislate morality. We are at a point where we must let this conflict continue to a natural end.

Sounds all too similar to me.Except this time the civilians have wisened up and aren't blaming the military. Politic ans just never seem to learn that if your going to fight in a war, you have to fight to win.If they're not going to all out from the start, stay out. Too many people are just being wasted away. But on the other hand, the rich are getting richer every day.

In the beginning of it no, I didn't.

But as time has gone on, there's been no end game, and all we end up doing is creating "new" terrorists, yes I do.

Why didn't the politicians see that as a possible outcome though? The better question now is "what's the solution?" That's going to be different depending on who you ask.

You need to quit listening to all the burnouts from the 60's. They all fried their brains 40 years ago.

It's not about a "war on terror" or "fighting for freedoms". It's REALLY about THIS!...
