To give the delivery drivers a corner to dangle it by.
Really, it would be much more expensive to get round boxes. To get round ones, it would take many more cuts and folds or glue.

Becuase a square pizza in a square box is more difficult to handle then if its a round pizza. Just like if it was a round pizza in a round box, its more difficult then if there was a square pizza in a round box. Thats the only thing I can think of.

The real question should be: why don't they make square pizza's?
round boxes are to hard to make, but square pizza should be easily done... at least we have more pizza then...

Have you ever tried to assemble or fold the edges of a round box. That's why almost all boxes are square or rectangular.

Because it's cheaper to manufacture, and because it's easier to get the pizza out. (A round pizza in a round box would leave no openings for you to slip your fingers in and pull out a slice.) ;-)

geometrically it's much easier to assemble a square box because of the distinct corners. a circular box, would be considerd cylindrical, is a lot harder to put together because there are no vertices that can easily meet.

Cost. Square boxes cost less to make and assemble,
Plus sometimes you need that corner space cuz they throw in some hot peppers or dipping sauce.
