I know Africans do, I know a lot of people do, but for what purposes? Just for health?

To the eighth answer, most West Africans have been performing circumcision since the dawn of time, so it has nothing to do with religion. That's what I was asking about.

It's part of our Christian tradition also. It is also proven to be more sanitary. I always figure that GOd's way is the best way. LIke real butter over margerine.

Breast feeding over formula etc.

Jews didn't invent circumcision. They nicked the idea from even older religions which have been around in Africa and the rest of the world for a lot longer even than Judaism. Circumcision is supposed to enable God to recognise His people. Tough, if you die mangled in a wreck or get blown up by a bomb or burn to a crisp or any of an endless number of other ways you might become unrecognisable because the evidence of circumcision is lost. It's religious narrow mindedness.

Cathedrals have to be built on foundations which take the form of a crucifix so that God can recognise His house from the heavens. More narrow mindedness.

It shouldn't surprise anyone how low an opinion religious people have of their omnipotent God's perceptions. Their opinions are only as high as their limited imaginations can take them.

It's a form of control by religion or state, done in the name of hygiene (though its benefits there are disputed).

It makes the penis less sensitive and therefore makes sex less enjoyable. Which makes people more likely to do what they're told (work, pray) rather than what they want (have sex, masturbate).

It's a form of child abuse. Some societies do it to girls as well.
In africa it was carried out by witch doctors as a form of social control and the jews picked it up from there when they were in Egypt.

For cleanliness reasons. There is something called smegma that collects under the excess skin.
