Our puppy femal schnauzer is going through her first heat cycle. She bled for about a week and a half, but recently we have noticed that her breasts are swollen and her nipples are really hard. Also her vulva is swollen. She seems really needy and wants love constantly. Could she be pregnant? We have a fenced yard and havent seem any dogs in our yard, but her symptoms are really dragging on. It has almost been a week and none of her symptoms have lessened. Help!

Female dogs that do not get pregnant sometimes have false pregnancies... Keep an eye on her, she could be pregnant if she was out in the yard while you were away, or anything like that. With in a month you'll be able tell easily if she or isn't. If you want to know sooner, take her to your vet.

The symptoms you describe a typical heat cycle. The cycle lasts about 3 weeks, so, it's not unusual what you describe. Make sure you keep an eye on her, and there are no unwelcome visitors in your yard.

Take the animal to the vet. NOW. Dogs get diseases just like
people. My dog died of kidney failure. I hate myself because I failed to see the signs. I could have done something. His conditioned worsened. When I took him to the vet for vomiting yellow cheesy and clear goo, the vet said it was too late. He lasted about two days after that visit. So go NOW. Don't wait.

You wouldn't be able to see changes in her if she were pregnant at this stage of the game. Those symptoms are just part of her being in heat.
