hydrogen peroxide 1 quart
dawn dish soap
baking soda 1 tsp

Like one of the other posters said works well. Don't bother with the tomatoe juice, it doesn't do any good at all. The best to use are commercial products like Natures Miracle Stain & Odor Remover, and there are other brands too. My dog has been skunked a few times, and there is nothing that will take the smell out all together. You'll smell it for a few months when the dog gets wet. Good Luck!

Another reason not to use tomato juice besides the fact it doesn't work, it will give light dogs a reddish hue for a long time after.

ok here is the recipe...granted it'll take a few washings...

hydrogen peroxide 1 quart
dawn dish soap
baking soda 1 tsp

wash the dog with the dawn dish soap all over and let it set for a few minutes...rinse him off real well ( avoid getting the soap in his eyes)...then mix together the hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. add a few drops of dawn to the mixture and soap up your dog very good. let this sit on him for about 15 mins (if possible)....rinse good again. You can do this everyday for about 5 days. The oil from the skunk spray will still be present in his skin in a small amount but the smell should be much improved.

Hope that helps you!! Goodluck!

I was told to use tomato juice to bathe her in. I did it...had to do it about 3 times and it finally wore off. Since then, I've heard the pet stores have a special shampoo just for skunk smell. Also, check with groomers for a shampoo that they would use. Poor dogs, huh! What a hideous smell! Good luck to you and your pooch!

Oh I have had that problem many times. Only my dog kills skunks so he ends up with the smell in his mouth. What I use is White vinegar and my vet told me that massengil douche works really well. But I personally use a gallon of white vinegar it is cheap and won't hurt your dog. He will just smell like a pickle for a while. When you put it on him do not rinse it off.

One Quart hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup baking soda, One teaspoon of liquid dish soap. Put vasiline or olive oil on her eyes and cotton balls in the ears. This only lasts for a limited time so do not mix in advance. Rub it in really good and wait about 15 minutes. Repeat if necessary. This is a proven formula tested on Myth Busters and by my husband and his hunting dog.....:)

Give him a bath in tomato juice. Which will sting a little if it gets in his eyes, but it's not harmful. Good luck!

When my dog was sprayed we washed her in tomato juice. It took a couple of washings but it worked.
