Our 2 german shepherd dogs will have full bowls of food all day, but don't eat it until I get home. I'm not sure if they prefer to eat at night or if it's something else, but it seems that even if I come home reallllly late, they still don't eat until I get there... Anybody have any clues as to why they do this??

b/c they like for u to see them eat it, my dog does the same thing, she even gets a mouth full out of her bowl brings it in the living room floor and makes sure i see her, they are just letting you know they are eating, making mom proud, nothing to be worried about, they wont starve, trust me

i must say your German shepherd dogs are extremely intelligent. you should be there present while their eating to pick up their empty bowls, wash them, and put them away. you shouldn't be leaving their bowls full of food through out the day! ants, fly, and other insects (unless you keep your dogs inside the house all day long) get into the food, that's gross! after your dogs are done eating then take them for a walk so they can poop. dogs need to have a routine everyday.

Some dogs are just like that. I have a cocker that, when we go on day trips, she absolutely refuses to eat. Sometimes she gets so mad that she didn't get to go that she won't eat until the next morning even.
Like I said, its just a strange choice that dogs seem to make, and its too bad that they can't talk so we could ask them why.

I have a dog that does this too. I figure they don't eat when you're away because they know that they can't get outside after they do. One of my dogs won't even drink water when we're not home. They wait till they know they can get out and do their "business".

My dog prefers to eat at 5:30 in the morning...maybe they just like you to be there when they do...dogs have weird little quirks about them sometimes.

My cat doesnt eat unless i am basically standing there watching her. I dont know y she does it but she does it everyday and night. Funny and cute but annoying too.
