I'm trying to make a cake, but I don't have any grease. I know you can get the same effect with something and flour, but I'm not sure if it's butter, vegetable oil, or something else. Help please?

Butter would be your best bet. Take a small amount in your hand or on the back of a spoon and coat the cake pan with it. When you're done, spoon a tablespoon full of powder in the pan and shake it around until the pan is coated with the flour. Dump any excess flour.

Vegetable oil will make your cake oily and heavy if used to grease the pan.

Simplest: dab some vegetable oil on a paper towel, then wipe the inside of the cake pan with it. Reapply oil as necessary to coat the entire pan. Then sprinkle about a tablespoon of flour in the middle and tilt the pan back and forth, tapping the edge lightly to shake the flour all over the oil. If there's any leftover flour, discard it.

Use a light vegetable oil -- canola or safflower, for example -- and NOT olive oil or peanut oil, as those have too strong a flavor for a cake.

Alternatively, you can drop a spoonful of butter or margarine in the cake pan, then wipe it down with a paper towel and repeat the procedure for flouring an oiled pan.

Always use butter or margerine and not any other grease. Put in enough flour that you can coat the bottom and sides of the pan by shaking and turning the pan to coat evenly. Or skip the butter and flour and use a cooking spray like Pam. I've used Pam for years, and my cakes always turn out just fine. Saves me a good ten minutes by not mucking about with butter and flour. Oh, thanks for the reminder! I need to bake a carrot cake to take to bingo down at the Legion Hall tomorrow evening!

Crisco Grease

IF YOU HAVE crisco, it works great. don't use oil, as it will burn your sides and bottom of your cake.

maybe a neighbor has some butter, or crisco you can 'borrow'.

margarine is great if you dont have crisco, but lightly 'grease' the pan, then add some flour, tap around till it coats all the pan, in cluding the edges. hold it over the trash can and tap excess flour out.

when they say grease the pan, it can be with butter, crisco , margarine anything like that.

Either one, butter or vegetable oil will work just as well. Don't pour a lot of oil into the pan. Use a paper towel to spread the oil in a thin layer evenly around the pan and sides. You can prevent the cake from sticking also by using a piece of parchment paper cut to fit the bottom of the pan.

Butter is what i always use to grease it. Just cut a little off and smear it all over the pan. I don't normally use flour with it though.

Good Luck :)

Pam, and if your really concerned dust with flour. Just realized your in the middle of making cake and have no "grease". Any vegetable oil?, butter, margarine, etc. What is grease anyway, but fat drippings. Lard. sorry that's my best.

Pam Cooking spray, or dab some butter/margerine on a napkin and rub it around the inside of the pan.
