I let my children self wean. With my first 3, it was early--13 months, 14 months, & 13 months. My 4th is still nursing at 15 months & we will continue until he wants to stop =). With my first 3, I went back to work when they were 3 months & pumped several times a day at work to keep up my supply. Now I have a new job & take my son to work with me & don't have to pump.

I wanted to edit to address some incorrect information in a previous post. Breastmilk does not magically stop being the best food for human babies at the one year mark--this is a myth & I think, a very dangerous one. Please see www.kellymom.com for more information about extended breastfeeding.

I had plans to breastfeed with my oldest but after 2 weeks my milk dried up... I telephoned the Le Leche League and tried everything they suggested for 3 days... I finally decided I was driving myself crazy in a futile attempt and went to formula... With the younger two I started them on formula thinking I would breastfeed for a few days should my milk come in... It never did....

Each mother is different and either bottle or breastfeeds for different reasons.... I would have loved to breastfeed all my children but fate didn't work out that way ...

My sister however could have breastfed a small army with the amount of milk she produced... Biology is sometimes a strange thing...

My son is now 10 months & I am still breastfeeding. He has 4 teeth & at first I had problems when he would try to bite down, but he has learned not to do it anymore. I am going to try as long as he will take it because I heard how good it is for him, but I'm not gonna lie. I can't wait till he stops! Also, I think a lot of mothers back in the day breastfed WAY too long. My husbands mom breastfed him for 2 years! WHOA@4 years!

I am a working mom. I breastfed my first child until he was 21 months...at that time, I got pregnant with my second son. Due to extreme breast tenderness, I had to force wean. Fortunately, he was only nursing one time per day by then. My younger son is now 11 months and is still nursing.

About the biting...my first son only bit me a couple of times. On those rare occassions, it always seemed like an accident. My younger son constantly bites me anywhere he can! On my shoulder, my leg, my nipple. I think that he is having more difficulty with teething than my oldest.

My older son only ever had breastmilk. My younger son gets formula from the nanny while I'm at work. I've noticed that my younger son is a lot more sensitive to new foods.

I had two totally different experiences with this and am going on my third. My first one refused to breastfeed. She screamed till she was purple in the face. The hospital wasn't going to let me go home because she wasn't gaining any weight. I then decided to give her a bottle and we were both much happier. However, my second one breastfed for 1 year and it was much cheaper and a lot less dishes. However, she did take the bottle too which allowed daddy to help (which was great). I hope this one will do the same.

i'm nonetheless nursing and my toddler boy is 9.5 months. I plan to enable him wean himself. inspite of the incontrovertible fact that, i will attempt to diminish him right down to 3 feedings around 11 months, and then 2 after he's a 300 and sixty 5 days previous. I savour the 1st factor interior the morning and final factor at night nursing classes, so i will enable him come to a determination whilst he would not desire them anymore. Breastmilk is SO nutritious for them, inspite of age.

ts of course up to you. Most women that work do it until 6 months. Those of those with part time or no jobs do it until atleast 1 or 2. My daughter is almost 3 and of my 3 kids she is the only one that took to the breast and is the smartest one of them all. I know thats not fair but hey its true. She breast fed until a few months ago and sometimes we laps when I'm sleeping and she boobie attacks me. Her teeth are whiter then all the other kids her age due to the calsum and no cavities. My other two only bottle and their teeth no lie are rotting from all the sweets. She obviously has no birth weight loss and she loves me to death. My other kids veiwed both me and their dad as gods but this one is all mine..lol I know thats also bad but she is my last one and I never realized how much it hurt my feelings that the other two kids didn't breast feed. The only draw back I can think of other then every once and a long while a sore nipple due to new teeth equals a new way they have to manuver the nipple to fit but i swear it doesn't hurt, is she doesn't like regular milk. Matter of fact she doesn't like any dairy at all but I just chalk that up to I don't drink regular milk and I don't eat dairy at all. I know I know it sounds unamerican but I hate cheese. Other then that she eats everything else and I have a number one, very healthy fan.

8 and 7 weeks. With my first I had absolutely NO support. Our local La Leche League wasnt even set up here yet. With my second I planned to go longer since it was my second baby but I had thrush the entire time that wouldnt go away. I tried everything including medicine from my Dr and natural medicines.
