christians believe the Jesus is the son of God, which I was brought up to believe. Now that i'm studying Islam, I'm reading something different. God can create anything, why not a son?

God is not physical, so Jesus is not the physical son of God.
But how do you describe the deep heartistic relationship God/Allah has with one so close to Him?
Jesus' deepest story of love was the Prodigal Son.
The youngest boy ran away from his family and lived disgracefully. When he came to his sences, he went back asking to be treated as a servant in his father's home. The father's heart welcomed him with a great feast and celebration. It was if his son had died, and was alive again.
That expressed the highest love as that of a father to his son.
The greatest expression of love Jesus gave was hanging on the cross, looking at his torturers.
He prayed, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do."
Jesus treated those people with forgiveness, with a parent's heart. He got that attitude from God. Jesus called on God as his father - heartistically at least.
Juanita, keep studying Islam. Don't stop asking questions of Christians either. We are all people of the book.

Define son. Son is a child with a father and mother. The first human beings that were created by God were Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve have no parents. If Jesus is the son why isn't Adam and Eve are the children of god because they have no parents. But still this means that God can not have children. Then we descend. His birth was a miracle from God. When Jesus was borned Mariam was fasting by silence. Her people asked how can she get this baby. If she disgraced her name. She just pointed at the baby and Jesus spoke. They were in shock. A prophet is a messenger who reminds and teaches people about god and spreads the message that God has given him.

Christianity believes that Jesus was fully God and fully man. He is God that dwelt on the earth in human form. God created Adam and Eve, and could certainly create anything He wants.
Many people would like to say that the God of Christianity, Allah, and whatever other god you can name are all one and the same. If that is the case, we have a very confused God. Islam teaches that Allah has no son. The heart of Christianity is the Son of God. If we profess a perfect and complete God, then He cannot be a God of change or confusion. Any change would render God imperfect or incomplete, or it would imply that He was not perfect or complete to begin with.

because just like the Jews who will not accept the Christ they have a hard time with believing and even understanding Jesus is the Christ the Messiah that God had promised to send to the world, even though he fulfilled over 800 prophesies that had been written about the messiah..no possible way could he NOT be who he said he was. The CHRIST SON OF THE LIVING GOD

The reason that the Muslim religion says that Jesus was a prophet is because if they admitted that he is the true son of God which he is, then it wouldn't make their religion make sense.
BTW, Jesus is the 1 True son of God, and I thank him for his dying on the cross to bear our sins.

WHY a son?
I've always struggled to decide whether or not Jesus was the LITERAL son of God. I'm on the fences personally, and I'm a Christian.

Good question and in fact you just about have the grasp of Islam. The Jews do not believe him to be the messiah either. However, the qur'an ws written considerably later than the bible by a man who could only receive his revelations when he was sleeping with his youngest bride. And he was to be believed instead of seen as trying to promote himself to greatness? I think he was more like a legend in his own mind.

excuse me but to the people that he was to be the Messiah of only think of Him as a great Rabbi or Prophet themselves.As he was not the great warior king that the were expecting.
only the Genitles those that were not Jewish or Isrealites belived that Jesus was the Son(sun) of God(sun)and were commaned to keep his words and deeds true and pure until the Jewish people beleive that HE was the son of god themselves.
