When my dog drinks from his water bowl, he sometimes will stick his paw in the bowl and sort of scrape the bottom of the bowl then will continue to drink....he can't want more water can he. I was also thinking that he sees his reflection in the water and maybe it trips him out......I hope he doesn't hear voices.....your thoughts.

He probably wants to get in! I work at a Huge Shelter with around 100 dogs, We have wading pools big water pans and as soon as we fill up the water buckets some of the dogs do the same thing. We have to fill the pools and big water pans first so they can get in those to give their drinking water a half of a chance of staying clean!!Sounds like a fun dog to me!!!!

I think he's trying to figure out where the top of the water is so he doesn't get his whole face wet....my cats do the same thing because they can't judge how far to put their face in the water....they can't judge the depth without sticking their paw in to feel the bottom.

He probably sees the water moving and thinks there is something else in the dish besides water. If he's playful or curious, he is just having a good time and enjoying himself. I'll bet you always make sure his water bowl has water in it, so he probably has enough of that.

Either that, or face it: your dog is a NUT. (But a good nut).

I think they like to play in it. I used to work at a dog sanctuary, and there were a few dogs that I had to watch their water, when they were outside. They would play in their bucket and splash it all out every time. When I changed play yards I would have to get more water. :)

my malamute does the same thing. it's so cute, until he walks in dirt and gets a muddy paw. Yes my dog is crazy, and yours probably is too!
