i have an empty bare clean garage. there's an opening up near the roof, but i can cover that up or leave it. and the washer and dryer are set up in the garage aswell. its a single car garage and i dont ever put the car in it. so i wanted to turn it into a "room" without converting it, because i'm renting the house, i dont own it. so how can i do this? how can i cool it next summer (i would use a heater to heat it in the winter) is this a bad idea? or with some creativity can it be done? the kids would love a play room!

Of course you can do this! You can cool it in the summer by putting up a ceiling fan. And no, it's not a bad idea to heat it. I live in Canada where we get loads of snow and I don't know of anybody here that DOESN'T heat their garage...

I imagine your floor is cement. You can put down a central area rug in the winter to keep the floor warm. Just remember to put a liner underneath so the carpet doesn't get too humid from lying on the cement floor.

Set it up just like you would a real playroom...and it will be a real playroom. It's a great idea so go with it. You can even separate the playroom from the laundry room... Use your imagination and have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well, since you say that it's already pretty clean, I would say the first thing to do is go buy a bunch of that industrial carpeting to put down, or even regular carpeting if you can find it cheap enough. Then you can put some chairs and couches and maybe a television in there if you want. Then you can hang pictures and decorations on the walls to warm the space up. As far as cooling it in the summer, that's a little difficult because garages aren't connected to the central cooling of the house. If the garage has a window, maybe you could buy one of those refrigerated air conditioners that can be mounted in the window. If not, then maybe just buy a bunch of big fans to circulate the air. I can't really think of anything else.

Dear lady you have the best of both worlds with no problem!!! First put a carpet on the floor (comfortable and cheap also can bring it if u move!!!) The opening leave it..EX> summer time have a plastic tube from dryer to the roof ,using the opening, also heat rises so let the heat use the opening and the room will be with ventalation!! Winter you have a drying machine right ,, close the opening with wood and let the heat from machine do its work, did it, loved it and solved 2 problems at a time with no extra costs.(mind u have to do the drying at a specific time but cant have everything hehehehe GOOD LUCK))

you could staple color full sheets or fabric to the walls, or those blue tarps also to the ceiling beams also than hang some pictures or posters. AC in the window if there is one. one of those cool to the touch space heaters would be o.k.
