It should not matter where your ancestors are from. Do you agree and would you be willing to start putting "AMERICAN" down on any questionaire that asks your race or ethnicity?

Yes!! That is what it should be if you are a legal American citizen whether natural born or naturalized. If a person has received their citizenship, they ARE AMERICANS!! If they took the oath, are loyal to this country only, would give their life to fight for it, YES!!

Next time you have to check a block on race or ethnicity, just mark through it and write "AMERICAN". It shouldn't matter what color you are.

I have to disagree with you. I AM an American, and so very proud of it, but my race is white and my ethnicity are Italian, French Canadian and Russian.
Race refers to the color of your skin and last I looked in a Crayola box, American wasn't available.
Ethnicity refers to your Nationality, your upbringing. Are you going to tell me you follow no customs of your family or ancestors in your home?
Do you eat BBQ hamburgers and hot dogs with Apple Pie every day?
I am proud to be an American living freely on my terms, but I am not about to deny my ancestors who came here to provide this American lifestyle for me.
While I fly an American flag outside my door and never leave it in the dark at night, I also enjoy cooking grandma's Borscht, and Grandpa's Sicilian pizza recipe and when I make "gravy", I can close my eyes and remember being in the kitchen forming meatballs with my mom and grandma.
So my dear, I am a white woman living in America who's roots descended from Italy, Canada and Russia, I take pride in ALL of it.

I think the race goes before the where you come from, Like for example I have a friend who is malaysian and Chinese, so he and his people call themselves Chinese malaysians.

Like Afican American or Chinese American or Mexican American.

The only thing possitive that happen out of 9/11 is that for one moment, there were no races, we were all united as Americans a common foe.

That's why its great to be an American

I didn't take an oath, more than likely neither did you if you were born here. You did nothing special other than have your ancestors come here and the aftermath was you being born.

You can't try to make people not look back at their heritage. It isn't going to happen. Just like the Americans that like telling people they are part Cherokee or part this or that. It's a pride thing.

it rather is fairly superficial stuff. whilst one grows older, you already know that it is likewise very petty. I even have stumbled on i could have extra in person-friendly with somebody of a various race because of the fact of comparable behavior, ideals, occupation, pursuits, and so on. and so on. and so on. than I do with somebody of an identical race--many situations over. all of us are a mixture of numerous ethnicities and races surely, and what you're gazing is what the divisions are in 21st-Century u.s.. Being in a multi-racial/cultural/nationality kin myself, I even have stumbled on it rather magnificent and has would each and every physique smarter in our progressed age. i could be rather bored if i did not stay in a multi-cultural society, in fact, it rather is what I stay for. Racial separatism is an immaturity of human sort.

America has not been a country long enough for all of the races to blend together into one, so no. Plus, do you really want to call yourself "American" nowadays?

Your race is not American, Your nationality is American. That is something by choice, not by birth.
