My gums are swelling up because of my braces. My orthodontist says I should brush them, but they won't stop swelling. Any ideas?

Use an effective antibacterial mouthwash containing chlohexidine gluconate, 2x daily, after brushing. Your pharmacist will know the brand names.
Don't waste your time and money on Listerine (cetylpyridium). It has negligible effect.
And keep brushing.

If your gums are sore from the brackets rubbing against them then ask your dentist for some wax or something to put over the brackets so they won't irritate the gums and then your gums will start to heal. And as the other person mentioned, warm salt water is great for mouth irritations. Good luck!

you could use a luke warm water and a salt solution to swish around in your mouth. This will take down the swelling a bit . It will take time to get used to the braces .
