People are going to tell you MANY different sides.

It's great! Do it! It's cleaner! It's more efficient!

Or

Don't do it! It's abuse! They could make him a girl!

Honestly, it's going to be between you and your husband. We circumcised our son because we agreed it was the right thing to do.

Explain your reasons to your husband, and listen to your husband's reason.

I am neither for nor against circumcising.

It is a choice parents make and select view have complications. Known fact about it.

My fiance wants it done. However, I am thinking I rather not when we have a boy. I just don't like the risks involved nor like the sound of the crying (as I seen it performed and sadly the child was sore etc). I would go insane of something bad went wrong.

If teach a child proper hygen, he can grow up with out infections and proper cleanage. I know a lot of males as relatives and friends who claim they are not. They all have said they had no problems and will have their children not be circumcised either.

I also have some on the other side who believe strongly in it.

It is all about a matter of opinion.

It is one of those topics that him and I have to discuss as the time comes. Since it is not "right" to not talk about it, even if our views oppose one another.

Neither is better...

There are advantages and disadvantages to both.. I will list them

Circumcised

Easier to clean...
Most boys in the US and other westernized countrys are circumcized so he will look the same as his peers...
There is a short period of time when you have to care for the wound after the procedure..
The procedure does cause pain.. .
The procedure is part of some religionious/cultural rights of passage..

Uncircumsized

Special care has to be taken when cleaning the area...
You will have to teach your child to clean the area properly.. And make sure he is doing it..
Most boys in the us and other westernized countries are circumcized so he will look different than his peers..
Some cultures/religions see circumcision as mutilation...

There are also medical reasons some boys must be circumcised.... non-elastic forskin.. not fully detatched foreskin... and others... Most will mean the foreskin is unable to retract from the glan making erection painful later on... Some can be fixed surgically without removing the foreskin while others require removal, depending on the severity of the problem..

The look (asthetic appeal) of a circumcised penis vs an uncircumcised penis is very subjective and culturally based.... What appeals to one group of people will repel another...

Both parents should have input on what happens to thier child...

As you didn't tell us what decision you ultimately did make.. and how you went about it ....I can't tell you if you made the right choice... and if you were wrong or right...

I had 3 girls so I never had to make the decision in the end. But, I wouldn't have had them circumcised if I had had boys. I made the decision not to and the doctor was fully aware of what I wanted if they were boys and he agreed that it was not necessary and wished that more parents would make the decision not to. I don't think it is wrong to circumcise ... I just find that it is unnecessary. People always use the excuse that it is cleaner. I think that's hogwash. I mean really, God made the male anatomy that way for a purpose. They are not that difficult to keep clean. My exhusband wasn't circumcised and he was clean. I find it odd that you wanted your son circumcised and your husband didn't. What reason did you have for wanting him circumcised? When boys reach the age of sex maybe they would be a little more hesitant if they weren't circumcised. Maybe, they would wait for the right woman to come along. That's just my opinion. I don't think you were wrong for having him circumcised. I just don't agree with it. Congratulations on your new little one and God bless!

WHATEVER choice you made was the right one. The only thing I haven't seen mentioned in here is penile CANCER. If you have a strong family history of any type of cancer then it MIGHT make a diffference as the rate of penile cancer among circumcized males is 0% and a lot of people threw that at me when my sons were born BUT what they don't tell you is that in the uncircumsized male the rate is LESS than 1/100 of 1% so it's really not a big deal. The only other issue, as related to cleanliness and circumcision is
Phimosis: Sometimes the foreskin becomes constricted and difficult to retract. This condition, known as phimosis, can cause a buildup of smegma around the glans. Men with phimosis are less likely to clean the penis routinely and effectively, greatly increasing their risk of developing penile cancer.

I have to say that i did have my first son circumcised, but i completely regret it. I'm now 7 months pregnant with my second son and am not getting him circumcised. Circumcision is only cleaner if you don't properly wash your child or if, when they get older they don't clean them self. There really is no need for it otherwise. Not only is it unnecessary but it can also cause problems and be very painful. Search circumcision on Yahoo Videos and watch one of the procedure videos, you'll regret it after seeing that.

When I was in nursing school we did a presentation on circumcision. It is something that I would never ever have done to my child!!

There are many advantages to being uncircumcised. 70% of the nerve endings are in the foreskin, so sex is actually better.

There is nothing unclean about not being circumcised. It is perfectly natural. It's like saying that a woman is unclean.

Studies show that men who are circumcised have a higher rate of violence and drug abuse. Even though they can't remember it, it is still traumatic and still affects them.

Babies have perforated lungs from crying out of pain and actually gone into shock from it.

Here's a website that talks about the affects of circumcision and increased violence and drug abuse.

Here's a website that talks about how babies can go into shock and their different ways of coping. You can also watch a video of a circumcision. (scroll down to 4th paragraph, very disturbing)

Intact is far, far better.

First and foremost -- it's your son's body, not yours. Let him make the decision to make any permanent modifications to it.

Second, there is *no* medical association in the world that recommends routine infant circumcision (RIC), and for very good reason. It does not convey any health benefits. It does permanently reduce the function and pleasure. It's not a mystery why America has the highest rate of RIC and the highest use of Viagra. Scientific studies have proven many times over that circumcision increases a man's chance of developing erectile dysfunction and they develop it earlier in life than intact men by nearly a decade.

RIC is a highly painful procedure, even with anesthetics (no picnic to administer, in and of themselves). Newborns (up through 8 weeks of age) have a greater sensitivity to pain than older individuals and experiencing great pain can permanently change their brain structure. All those stories of newborns falling asleep during the procedure? Yeah, that's not sleep. That's withdrawal from sensory overload. In other words, they pass out. I know several nurses who say they routinely tell parents the baby did fine during the surgery even though he screamed until he was hoarse and passed out from the pain.

Why on earth would you want to do that to your perfect, new baby? He wasn't born with any extra parts. The foreskin serves an important purpose, in terms of both health and pleasure.

Circumcised. FYI... Catholics do circumcise. It really is a personal preference though. My sons are because their father is and I would hate for them to be 20 and have to get it done then.

It doesn't really matter anymore. It started out as a religious thing. I am due to have my third baby soon and if I have a baby boy then I will. My biggest reason is that it is easier to keep clean. But, on the other hand if you don't you will learn how to clean it correctly anyway. So, whatever you want now.
