I just don't feel comfortable having a parametic take blood from me in an unsterile environment like my work . They even said they could do it in the parking lot at McDonalds if that was convenient! I asked why I couldn't have it done at my Dr.'s office or the hospital where it would seem safer to me, and they said the insurance person had to do it! That seems crazy to me. I am hard to stick and I don't think getting stuck 10 times in my office or a parking lot would be very clean. Should I be worried? I am pregnant and I am so paranoid lately am I overreacting?

I just took out a policy on self and the agent came to my home,If they can't come to your home or doctors office then do not get it done, make sure they realize that you are pregnant and have the right to feel as you do. As for you being hard stick, I use to be but know that you should never ever be stuck more than twice. If you are ever in the hospital and the regular nurse can't get it after first try maybe if you let them second try, Then you have the RIGHT to ask them to send someone from the LAB, I called them VAMPIRES but they Specialize in finding every VAIN in your body and they will get you on the first try. Now here is some advice, DRINK plenty of WATER 30minutes to and hour before having your blood taken this will help you to be HYDRATED which will make it easy to get/ find your veins now if you have low blood like me then TAKE IRON PILL every day after baby. LOW BLOOD and having LOW IRON and NOT enough Water can cause vein's to ROLL or Collapse. Thanks Your Medical Assistant.

While I don't think I would like having blood drawn in a parking lot having it drawn in any clean environment is OK. The Dr. office is not sterile either. As for who does it the insurance company insists their contractor does it to ensure the sample is yours. Hopefully you will get someone who is good at it. You really don't stand any better chance in a clinical environment of getting some skilled.

I just had the same procedure done to set up a bank account/life policy. Believe me that they will work with you, on two separate occasions they came over my house. One time at 8 am and the other at 9 am, both times on a Saturday.

They have taken urine, blood and swab samples the process is a little long but well worth it.

Talk to them.

It's not that big of a deal, they are trained to do it. They sterilize the area where they take the blood. If you tell them no, they will probably refuse to insure you, thinking you are hiding something from them. You could ask them to come to your home instead. They should be willing to do that.

actually .. it's very sterile and safe. we just had this done at my office ... as several of us signed up for the life insurance policy. the guy took us individually into the conference room ... he used gloves and sterile equipment and there were NO problems whatsoever.

i understand your concern .. but it really was very quick and easy.

good luck ...

There are many companies that offer in house medical exams. Or you can go to a lab. I think if you explain your preference to your boss, he or she sould not mind allowing you to take the exam somewhere else.
