Yes, it is perfectly legal in the U.S. My university does research about stem cells. It just is very hard to get federal grant dollars for it. That does not stop private and state dollars to support it.

Certainly. There have been no bills to regulate it, but under the current legislature and administration, it is difficult to gain government funding. Still, though, stem cell research even takes place in government institutions such as the National Institutes of Health. Bush wants to prohibit it and brings up an ethical debate, but thankfully has not yet succeeded.

no, this summer the house and senate passed a bill to propose it, but Bush used his first veto so far and denied it. it then went back to congress, but didnt pass the 2/3 majority needed to override the presidents veto and become a law. so no, it is not legal in the US
