the cat should not have fleas

There's no reason a cat should have any fleas on any average. There are many flea preventatives on the market to keep the average cat flea free!

Unless your cats are show cats, most cats do have fleas.

Firstly lets take a brief look at show cats. Show cats should have an absolutely clean fur with no flea dirt or eggs and certainly no living fleas. Owners of show cats have lots of time on there hands to ensure there little pussys don't get fleas. The regime is strict and regular. Kittens will accept being bathed in warm water almost from birth, towel dried and groomed. This takes a good 30 minutes per kitten and 40 minutes per adult cat. The long haired varieties need grooming twice daily. Some show cats need a polish aswell with a chamois. All in this is very time consuming for the owners, who also treat there show cats to living quarters which allows no access to the outside world.

I have two 57 varieties cats, in other words they are of no particular breeding. They are both 16 in human years - cat years I can't remember 16x7 or 16x9 possibly the later. Twice in 16 years, we have endured a flea epidemic. A flea epidemic is when you know your cat is irritated and no normal over the counter supermarket pet pesticide works. The blasted fleas have become resillient. argh. Scream. What in hell are you to do?

You could go to the vet in which case the fees will be extortionate.

85 pounds per cat or more for one consultation plus one follow up appointment plus treatment could be well over a 100 pounds, just for one.

At this very moment in time I feel the tide is turning as this has been the epidemic year.Over the last six weeks, I have followed every possible route to clearing fleas prior to ringing the petshop who recommended the following.

Firstly restrict the number of rooms they can go in and defest them anyway with the strongest household insecticide.
That is Zodiac. This gives 12 months protection not only as an immediate kill product but as a growth inhibitor.or regulator.Put the cats out and treat the rest of your home. Closing the doors for at least half an hour before airing.

Secondly use only, Bob Martin Vetcare Spot on, for each cat. I was warned that one or two would stay behnd but the protection is for three months with each cat against reproduction and a repeat of the flea cycle.

So why do I feel the tide is changing, well after having sprayed the furnishings and carpets with numerous other products to no avail and treated the cats with a range of other products to no avail.. this last massive spend of 26 pounds has simply got to work.

Not only is it tiring to be constantly working at a problem but soul destroying when you know they are suffering. You see it's not so much you that suffers - fleas can't live on a human being they have to have an animal host, a dog, a cat, a rabbit. That doesn't mean they don't bite, they do.

So for six weeks I have groomed everyday my two cats and we are down now to getting four off each. What I am concerned about though is one of my cats has the most beautiful and clean fur, no eggs no dirt. The other cat still has lots of flea dirt and eggs coming away and I can't help but wonder where in hell is this coming from, as each day after grooming she is clear till the next. I haven't figured this one out especially since she prefers to sleep on a tiled floor.

I can't wait now to get to that stage of three days running with no fleas, flea dirt or eggs. I hope I achieve it.

So how many fleas does a cat have, well according to the pet shop two or three non productive fleas is acceptable.

I'd like none.

How many flees would you like to have. Do you sweet cat a favor. Give it or get it a flee bath and then if it is an outdoor cat get it a collar or some other type of repellent.

I don't think they should have any. One will turn into ten then a hundred then you have a family of fleas.
