Some of the stories in the bible can be corroborated with historical events.
However the description of the events are usually grossly misrepresented.
My guess is that nearly 90% is pure fiction, the other 10% is bad history.

There are no actual facts, ever... about anything.
Just a lot of people speculating about what life is and making up definitions for their ideas so they can make a living off of selling how clever they are.
As for the Bible... Many great books on the subject. I tend to go with the "heavily edited propaganda poorly pasted together to hide the fact that it was principally authored to brainwash the early Jewish civilization and early Christians in the interests of whatever predominant paradigm held power that week" theory.
A generous helping of truth and lies nobody living can prove. But's thats true of all history, really.
Forget the books, read Life!

Well, for starters, all of the Apostles died gruesome deaths, except for one. All that they had to do was recant their testimony of Jesus, and they would have been spared. Yet they died with "He is risen!" on their lips.
People will not go to their deaths for something that they know to be a lie. If the things written in the New Testament were not true, and they would be spared if they changed their tune, don't you think that they would have?
During the Watergate incident in the 70's, the conspirators couldn't keep their lie straight for two weeks. The worst that could happen to them was prison, not death. And yet one by one, they started to squeal on each other, hoping to catch a break with the prosecutor.
The Bible is not fiction, because people don't knowingly die for something they know to be a lie.
