A friends 1 1/2 yr old Shitzu (not correct spelling) named Lola hasn't pooped in two days. She has been eating food and is know to eat her own poop as well. She isn't fully house trained and in spite quite often does her poop around the house. She is acting normal and shows no signs of distress over this. She has squatted for a short moment today but nothing came out. Anyone have this happen with thier dog ? She has just moved into a new home 3 days ago could this be some kind of stress thing ? She does seem happy and okay otherwise.

Yes, stress thing, more than likely. You can try giving her foods that make her poop. PET GRASS might be good. For our dogs, its carrots. It WILL turn their duke orange. How nasty is that? Anyway - you can also try some vaseline on your fingers and gently massaging the anal opening (no insertion). This, while you might think is gross, will relax the muscles and could promote defication.

If Lola hasn't pooped in a few more days, I'd take her to the vet - they'll do an x ray and let you know if she's backed up.

In the meantime - has she gotten into any "cat cookies"? What about paper products, anything that could "gum up" the intestines? Check around. Good luck!

You know, that's not really that odd. She might be stressing out from the new surroundings, or doesn't feel comfortable doing her business in this strange new environment. Make sure she drinks lots of water, and massage her belly to encourage her to go.

On a side note, to get her to stop eating her own poop put Accent on her food, it contains MSG which makes poop taste bad to dogs.

It may be a stress thing. I would call the vet in the morning just to be safe and just ask them whats up. Most vets will give you advice over the phone for free and a recommendation on what to do.

When litte Aggamenon, the poodle, got this way, his owner would shove a suppository up his rectum -- worked wonders - and very quickly.

And of course, consult with your vet to see if this is a reasonable option for your Shih-Tzu.

Good luck.

She could be consitpated from the stress of moving.

I've been told that green beans (no seasoning, just plain) will help. At least it has on occasion with my chihuahua. I'd try giving her a few.

I would at least call the vet. Since pets can't relate to how they feel, you need to contact a vet anytime you think something is wrong.

Could be stress, could be constipation. Call the vet to see if/when you should bring her in.

I'd say try giving it peopto bismal (pets can have it look it up if you don't believe me) that might help a bit?
