Tricky question. Easiest answer and biggest difference is screen size. There's almost no limit (but there are limiting factors). Big Screen TVs go up to 65" (although Panasonic launched a 103" plasma or LCD a few months ago - not sure exactly because I didn't look past the $20,000 price tag).
I could spend hours on all the differences. You have light gain to deal with (affects the lumens, or light power of the projector, and screen gain, or screen's ability to reflect light), contrast ratios, color segments, aspect ratios, scanning rates, and more.
I do home theaters. I prefer projections systems (have one in my home with a 10 foot screen - you ain't livin brother till you have watched a flick in there). But I had the room. If you don't, there's no shame in a Mitsubishi Platinum series 65" HDTV. Hitachi is better, but costs more. Let me know if you want more info.

Watching a regular TV is like watching TV. Watching TV on a good projector is like going to the movies or a theater. The experiences are not comparable. You can watch TV while doing something else, but you have to watch a projector in a darkened room, and the large screen commands all your attention. I have both types; mostly we watch regular TV, but when we really want a great viewing experience, nothing beats the projector.

well compare the price of a 100" TV with a projector, the projector is way cheaper than the TV of the same size.

Are they?
Plasma tv or LCD screens have there strengths, however so do projectors. There are many many variances. The projector type, and the screen type...all of which will cost MEGA dollars, however if the big screen awesome theatre setup is what you desire, get the projector and a screen, but be warned....BIG $$$$$$$ for large quality that will NOT disappoint you

I have a 40 2 liquid crystal exhibit and that i actually have a mitsubishi hd projector. If it changed into me i'd get the projector see you later as you get an HD one. The seen high quality is practically an identical you only do not get the vivid glare like off of the pro. like you do a liquid crystal exhibit. yet ask your self would you somewhat have a liquid crystal exhibit or one hundred and 5 + inch television. Having a hd projector is way extra ideal.

You can get a bigger picture. TVs (tube, plasma, LCD) are limited in size by cost and.or weight. Projection doesn't have these limits. But you do need the space to put the screen and locate the projector.

Actually,
All of the above answers including = projectors are healthier for your eyes!
TVs shoot the image into your eye.
Projectors shoot an image at a canvas or wall, while you're just looking at a reflection of the image.
