If you had a rainforest, it would be a temperate one. To get money from it you would probably chop most of it down then use the land for paper plantations. Temperate rainforests don't have as exotic of woods as tropical ones, and their are already a fairly large amount of sustained temperate rainforests in the world, like in British Columbia, so you wouldn't make a killing off the wood by clearcutting. The world already has enough Douglas fir that the UK would have to be totally covered to be able to sustainably make money off of it.

Been there, done that.
UK WAS full of forest (maybe not rainforest) and previous generations have already chopped it down to make some money.
And as usual in business, the criteria for the deforestation was quick return and bugger the future generations (not literally !)

Couldn't we just have a normal forest? I dont even want to think of the spiders that would live in a rainforest ... even if they are hypothetical :o

But in answer to your question: Probably.

Then replace what was cut down with Forestry Commission spruce trees that are only green on top.

Not now, but previous generations would probably have chopped it down. If it had not already been chopped down, it would have been when Maggie was in power.

I don't think it would have lasted that long as it would have been used for raw materials during one of the two world wars.

England was covered in forest. The story was that a squirrel could travel from London to Bristol without touching the ground.
It was cut down to give areas for growing food, timber - particularly oak - was used for house beams and ships.
The Redwoods in America were virtually wiped out for the same reason - MONEY.
Not much left now is there folks?
And we would do it again for commercial profit

If the UK had a rainforest it would be an ecological anomaly.

The UK was once covered in forest once upon a time, however we have cut them down to create land space and to use the wood. so we already have!

You bet. They grow back and when managed right we can reap the rewards by both having another rain forest and the monetary benefits of the forest

We've already used our available wood for fire wood years ago during the industrial revolution. We only have enough for decoration now. Everyone does it. Too much bush is no good (pardon)
