If you are looking for a pure-bred dog check your newspaper or even your vet's office for a list of breeders in your area. If you don't care about breeding/bloodlines or showing the dog and just want a pet, go to your local animal shelter and adopt a nice dog that needs a home! My family has adopted several shelter pets and never had a problem.

If your getting a puppy you should really concider getting one from the humane society or your local shelter. There are so many good quailty animals out there that need homes. Just this morning on the way to school I saw someone drop a dog off on the side of the road and leave. I don't know what they were doing but I am pretty sure that they left him.
The point I am trying to make is that there are a lot of pets out there that need loving homes. We saved our dog from the humane society and she is just a lover!!!!
So if you can please get one from the humane society.
But if you choose not to get one from there try a local pet store, but don't buy from Puppy Mills. Well you could to get the animal out of there but if there are a lot of dogs then the dogs usually become agressive because they are competiting for different things such as food all the time.
Hmmmm. . . . Names
Male/ Boy:
Spencer
Hot Rod or Hot Tod
Chewy (short for Chewboca off of Star Wars)
Female/ Girl:

(I honestly can't think of one!)

You should start by looking for a puppy at the animal shepter(SPCA) they will give your new family member their first shots or send you to a free first visit with a local vet. If you don't have a local shelter, I would call the Vets and ask them if they know of someone with a litter of puppies for sale. Don't worry about naming your new pet until you have had a chance to watch them. Sometimes their actions will help with creating a great name. Just keep in mind that dogs respond well to 2-syllable names. Don't ask me why, they just do (this according to my vet). Good luck and remember to have alot of patience with your new pup.

Your local ASPCA or Human Society are good choices. But please, also check with your local rescue places. Also, if you have a Pet Smart near you - they often have animals for adoption.

In most cases you will be charged for neutering - but that is a small price to pay for a friend who will love you no matter what.

Enjoy your puppy when you get her/him - smile often, love a lot -- and when you see your new friend - I think a name appropriate for him/her will come to you.

Go to the SPCA! its a great place to get a puppy or dog. They also register, spay/neuter, and put an ID chip in as well. It can be pricey but totally worth it!

Your local animal shelter is a great place to start. Also try www.petfinder.com. You can search by your area, by breeds that you are interested in, and find great dogs that need a good home.

ASPCA (or SPCA) depends on what it is called inyour city.
aspca.org

Animal shelters

Your city dog shelter, also called a "kill shelter," because they kill the dogs, if the are not adopted within a few days, upon arrival at the shelter.

Please consider going to your local animal shelter. There are millions of dogs and puppies put to sleep every year, simply because no one wants them.
