In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.

The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.

Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.

Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.

Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

All religions are growing...branching away from what is right...however I don't think atheist worship Satan..they don't believe in god or the devil..the world is filled with evil and there is only a select few that know the truth, then they are those that.. are lost or uneducated and only practice what they already know..its evil for sure but not necessarily Satan.

I imagine atheism is on the rise because of the self-righteous hypocritical attitudes people observe in organized religion. This is coupled with the emphasis modern society puts on self-image. Everyone nowdays is taught that if they aren't self-confident to the point of being arogant that there is something horribly wrong with them, therefore they will reject religions that have for centuries played on people's insecurities and told them that they are sinners from birth and desperatly need approval from the church leaders. Don't get me wrong I'm not an atheist. I believe in God, and The Goddesses too for that matter. I will even say I love Jesus; it's the obnoxious holier then thou blow hards that use him as an excuse for their behavior I can't stand.

Since I don't believe in any god or demon, I can't give Satan the credit for this.

Besides, have you noticed how the godders have been behaving lately? Catholic priests abusing kids and Catholic bishops covering up the crimes for decades; Muslims blowing people to bits (mostly their fellow Muslims); and don't get me started on the follies of fundies everywhere. Do you really think these nutcases need demonic help to drive people away?

There is no such thing as Satan except for in the cristian beleifs. They are the only church that has beleifs in a supreme evil being. So no satan is not to blame. I am an athiest i have been that way ever since my mother tried to shove catholism down my throat. The one to blame are all the bible thumpers out there trying to annoy everyone with their beleifs that noone cares about. Do yourself a favor if you beleive in religion fine. Keep it to yourself. And ill keep my non beleifs to myself.

Says who? Last I knew, more and more people were becoming Christians, or reverting back to their roots and Christ, especially the children, who control our future.. Maybe Satan's work is people like you; who, instead of trying to bring people closer to Jesus and his love for all no matter what their beliefs, try to steer them away and inspire hatred instead. Shame on you.

That's the world is growing out of the stone age and start to wonder if god exists then where has he been all these time?
Also the world is getting smarter and knows better.
If god does exist he/she is the same being as satan.

Religions generally depend on ignorance.

Education cures ignorance.

That is the primary reason thumpers are so insistent that children remain ignorant. But, it's too late. Bible based religions are dying and in another 1,000 years (or less), the Bible will be considered a work of fiction. And, rightfully so.

To Jade:

Christians, as a group, have more children out of wedlock, more abortions, more divorce and commit more crimes than any other group.

No it's not Satan. It's the whole religious concept and the way man has presented it to other men. First the chronicles are distorted and changed to suet each faith, such as when people say my god when it should be our god unless there is more than one. So when you pray or are in trouble do you say oh my god or oh our god?
