As a former AF member and my father was AD Army, my husband is still currently AD AF, I would say, run the other way unless you currently live in poverty, or need to leave home. If you were to go military I suggest becoming an officer and going with the AF or Navy, they have the best living conditions. I also suggest the reserves to obtain the GI Bill. If you like to kiss butt, brown nose and be around plain people this is for you. If you are independent and do not like having some nerd who nows nothing tell you what to do because of more stripes, then go to college instead. I am not saying all of the military people are like this because I was one, my father was one and my husband is one but that is what you will frequently deal with. As far as the weight issue, that is not usually a problem unless very large, the fitness test is the one you need to focus on. To get all of the requirements talk to a recruiter who can give you all the info however be very certain this is what you want and DO NOT jump in or be swayed. Good luck

1)ASVAB >30, sometimes this can be lower depending on what is put out
2)GED or High School diploma (preferred)
3)Height and weight are used to determine your body mass/fat, so that you would have to go see a recruiter to be measured
4)Max one felony OR 2 misdeminors (sorry for spell), just no major law violations
5)No major medical problems, like asthma
6)No psych problems, like suicide attempts
7)Clean drug test
8)17 with parental consent, 18-42 otherwise
9)You can be in school, but at least a senior (juniors can do Army Reserve), and be in DEP (Delayed Entry Program) for a year, till you graduate.
Anything else you want to know, contact a recruiter. Good Luck!

Ditch the mummy land and pass out to the colonies. Aus has the optimal payed military in the international (approximately aus 50000 a 300 and sixty 5 days). notwithstanding we are able to call you a stinking pom and could not communicate over with you if England wins the ashes!

Man - if you wanna join the army just walk into the recruiter's office and they'll scoop you right up and make sure you walk the line. Those recruiters are eager mofos. They'll tell you anything and go as far as putting preperation H on your belly and wrapping it tight in saran wrap just to make sure that you make your measurement... and they'll tell you not to eat - that is if you're right on the line... my brother just went through all that. He leaves in January... my advice to you... JOIN THE AIR FORCE!!!

Ordinarily I wouldn't cop out like this, but I've had enough of reading answers from trogs for one day. I feel bad for you that you got so many bad replies. Good luck in whatever you do.

You could learn to spell for one thing. But actually, it would take a lot of courage. I'd go to the Air Force if I were you.
