Preferably if you work in a legal environment or non-profit organization. What steps do you take to uphold confidentiality. What attributes help you contribute to that?

just keep your mouth closed. I tell my trainees to pretend that it's themselves or one of their family members in the situation they are in and it puts things in an entirely new perspective!

engage brain before opening mouth...biggest thing.. however, there are so many little loop holes now that make for a breach in confidentiality. Just make sure to be familiar with company policy and never ever slip on identifying information. Paper, even leaving a paper with such info on a desk is concidered a breach... depends what and where you work. I could go on & on...

What if you drafted a 'non-disclosure' agreement that identifies the information or type of information that is confidential. It might also discuss the length of term that the agreement is in effect, once agreed to. Also it should be signed and maybe notified/witnessed. It could also reference to be in accordance with any pre-established conduct guidelines that already exist.

Just about anything can be supoenaed by lawyers, so be careful what you commit to paper, or computer, and think before speaking.
