I don't know, I wonder the same thing.
I am a Christian, but I know that I mess up a lot. I never claim to be perfect, or have all the answers, but I daily strive to be more like Christ.
I wish Christians weren't so hypocritical. So called "Christians" are the biggest reason people that don't believe in Christ DONT WANT to believe in Him, because of the example that so much of the church has displayed.
I can't change how those Christians act, but I just do my very best to change the way people view Christians. For example, restaurants say Christians don't tip well- so if the server can tell we are Christians (usually see us praying) I'll tip at least 30%, regardless of the service. I'll make a point to help people, and do random acts of kindness- no strings attached. I think if more true followers of Christ were to actively try to change the way people view "Christians", if they were to "love their neighbor as themselves" then in a few years, we'd see a revival.

Because we are weak! It's easy to fall back into the "world". It's difficult being a Christian, especially when you know others are watching our every move. We have to work at it daily!, when we are at work, driving,at the store,at home, everywhere.! So when we fail, people call us hypocrites. They say the churches are full of them and that's true, but that's why we go, to learn how to be more like Christ.

Mat 7:21 ¶ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
Translation: Just because someone says they are a christian doesnt make it so. Words are cheap, actions are what matters.

EVERYONE is hypocritical to some extent.
It's just most don't have the spine to admit it.
I must mention though, unchecked self-righteousness certainly doesn't help in tackling the problem, within or without.

Not all people who say they are Christians are. That's why Jesus said " not everyone that calls me Lord,Lord will enter into my kingdom".

We judge others by what we see them do , we judge ourselves by what we intended to do.What we should be doing is encouraging one another and praying for one another , Amen. Good question thanks for the two
