We have a 10 year old female cat that has been fixed. She is an inside cat. For about a week she seems to be hiding in odd places. We have found her in the closets, One day mine, next day one of my girls, laundry room closet, my other daughters closet. We even found her hiding in the kitchen cabnits. What concerns me most is she will not come when we call her. She is still eating and using her litter box. But does seem less social then usual. She's not a very social cat anyway.

Look for fleas or skin irritations.I have had several cats, who ,when they have fleas, will hide in one place,as if they are trying to "hide"from the fleas. They will come out to eat or use the litter box,and then back they go.I had one cat who would sit on top of the refrigerator, the microwave,or anyplace off of the floor, and every summer,my brothers cat Georgie, flees to the windowsill.A trip to the vet for flea drops(Advantage or Frontline),and a shot of cortisone and some antihistamines usually has them back to normal in about a week.Good luck with your kitty.

Oh heavens - I have a 22 yr old cat and she is old. A 10 year old cat is not.

It is good that she is still eating and eliminating normally and ANY change in a cat's usual behavior is most likely because she is not feeling well. She should be checked out by a vet. 10 is considered "senior" for cats today and there are certain diseases or physical conditions that the vet will check her for. He will want to do a blood panel which is a very effective diagnostic tool. It will tell him how her liver is functioning, what her thyroid level is, how her kidneys are doing, etc.

You should have her evaluated by your veterinarian. Sudden behavioral changes like this are a possible signal for a physical concern, especially since she is a senior cat.

Has anything changed either with you or your family in the last week? Cats are very sensitive to change...even the tiniest things. They can sense when something is not right or concerning them.

My cat does this too. He is 15. He seems to think it is a game. To hide where we can't find him. I've seen him in the attic, under the beds, in the closets, under the couch..
Not so long ago, aobut a month or so, he didn't come out to get his meds! He wouldn't come out for food ect.
But he hasn't done it since. I think he felt happy with himself that he 'fooled' us! And he is fixed too.

Unless you find 'accidents' around the house, she's probably playing hide and go seek with you.
SHE hides and YOU seek.

yeah, talk to your vet, and i had a cat who had a social disorder, cant think of what its called right now, but she was very timid and scared of sudden movements and always would hide, i had to keep her away from my other cat and in my room, because she didnt like being around anyone, except me.. if anyone new is around she wouldnt eat, so im not sure what it could be, i would just suggest talking to your vet

Has there been any changes in the home that she might be adjusting too?? Cats can become stressed out over things that we might not even think they notice.

Ten years isn't so old, so she may be sick. Animals often seek solitude when they are not feeling well. Take her to the vet for a check-up. Only he/she can tell you for sure if anything is wrong.

Cats frequently hide when they are ill. Take her to a vet to be sure she isn't terribly sick. Check out: http://www.catwellness.org/

I guess her age is starting to effect her. It seems like she is becoming more tired, losing hearing, and perhaps losing eyesight. Maybe take her to a vet.

My cat is 13 and doesn't act like that.

She is probably sick. Call your vet.
