For salad or eating by itself, blue cheese. For sandwiches and burgers, American. A nice sharp cheddar is good both ways! Personally, just for a nosh, I like horseradish cheddar but that's an acquired taste!

American cheese has a better smell but blue cheese has a much better taste. But both are better with certain foods.
